if you have had a sweep at home - where abouts?

My midwife is coming next week to give me a sweep at home.

Will she just ask me to lie on my couch, or will she want to use a bedroom?

i.e.: Do I need to tidy my bedroom? hmm

It's probably more practical to do on a bed - more room. So yes, tidy your bedroom just in casesmile

[looks for non existent nesting instinct]

I'm sure mine asked where I preferred to have it done, I chose the bed though.

I had mine on my bed and by that point I couldnt be arsed tidying my bedroom grin

Make sure you put something on your bed to protect the mattress, just in case!

prob. bed, clean incase

Oh yes, pampers do bed mats (cheaper than mothercare maternity bed mats).

Up your fanjo.

Ooh sorry, where in the house? On your bed, most likely.

(sorry, couldn't resist).

Might hurt, take a couple of paracetamol/drink a glass of wine 20 mins beforehand.

belgo Sat 16-Aug-08 15:47:50

I like the wine advicegrin

had mine on the bed and it was a little uncomfortable!

I would say bed but a lot of midwives are so used to saving time by seeing scars and stitches on the sofa that they'll just do it there. Pampers bed mats a good idea too.

Definitely paracetamol/wine and bear the mind that the more it hurts the more effective it is. I had 4 half assed sweeps done by the midwife but it wasn't till the consultant tried to asses the size of my pelvis in case it was too small and shoved his whole fist up there that I went into labour a couple of hours later. Hurt like hell but when I was 20 days late and had 4 failed inductions and numerous sweeps it finally did the trick

On my bed.
She said when I opened the door, 'Shall we go upstairs?' (I thought I'd pulledwink)
Did a normal examination first, then put a towel under me bum and did the sweep.

hockeypuck - lol at the fist comment.

I'll hope for the fatter midwife with chunky (effective) fingers then.

Sod the pain, I just want his baby

Mine said beds had too much give. I had my second lying on my living room floor with ds1 sat on my chest.

Mine did it on my bed. Partly cos my lounge has big windows and couldn't be bothered to close the curtains.

Mine didn't hurt at the time but later on I had some pain, which then moved int ocontractions grin Good luck

Amberc Sat 16-Aug-08 23:02:53
