I'm interested in this as I learned quite a lot of self hypnosis when younger.

I am a HB practitioner and a Hypnotherapist.

The book I use if the HypnoBirthing book by Marie Mongan, who developed the course(available on Amazon). This now comes with a good CD.

Just to clarify: the hypnosis approach to childbirth is that it is for pain managment, whilst the HB approach is that pain is not necessarily part of giving birth. You learn relaxation techniques, breathing, massage, visualisation exercises... that start in pregnancy (some of the techniques are also useful later on too). The whole premis is that if you are tense or scared, your body will become tense and go into 'fight or flight' mode which is the opposite of what is should be when giving birth. If you remain relaxed then you are more in control. I have had only good, positive feedback from clients and I did use it myself to good effect!

Good luck!

Hi,

Just to add to georgiesmum, most hypnosis approaches to childbirth are about helping a mum feel calm, confident, relaxed and trusting in her body - very few claim to focus only on pain management. I did a lot of research in to the various methods including Natal Hypnotherapy and hypnobirthing and none of them focusd just on pain managment. I chose to do the Natal Hypnotherapy course (2 days) and I can not recommend it enough - it was a really all rounded antenatal course and not "hippy dippy" at all. My Dh was very skecptical but he is now a complete convert. The course covered so many things other than hypnosis and gave us so much confidence and belief that I could do it and that he can support me brilliantly. I am also using the Natal Hypnotherapy Cds to prepare for the birth (due any day now!!!!)
