I've asked in Boots (went bright red too, oh the shame!) but they hadn't heard of them so not sure where else to look.

You could always make your own. This was posted today on another forum:

"Make your own flexible icepacks by combining rubbing alcohol and water. Use one part alcohol to 3 parts water. If you increase the ratio of alcohol, the frozen mixture will be slushier, gentler. Put this mixture into a
condom and tie the end closed like you would a balloon and out into a freezer. After it is
frozen you may want to put another condom over it. This can then be wrapped in soft flannel. The idea is that this shape would be more
ergonomic. It is to be applied the same way you put a hot dog in a bun."

LOL terramum So I wouldn't apply it as you would a foot in a sock?

You can order on line from NCT here Don't forget to order a set of gauze refills with it, as they don't have many covers in the Femme Gel Pad pack.

Worth it's weight in gold for bad tears etc. I have mine back in the freezer just in case I need them this time.

So if you need one of these and a sanitary towel at the same time, how does that work?

Report
Whizzz · 28/07/2008 20:56

how about a frozen haddock fillet ?

CantSleepWontSleep, You have a towel the size of a brick and these are much smaller and sit on top. Every time you use a gel pad, you put a gauze cover on it to keep the gel pack clean.

buy one of those travel-sized spray bottles from a shop right about now, during holiday season.

fill it with witch hazel.

pop in the fridge.

spritz on sore fanny as needed.

Thanks for all your reply's everyone! Wish they weren't so expensive though, I might have a go at making my own as terramum suggested. Will any alcoholic drink work or does it have to be neat alcohol? Could i nick a can of my DP's beer?

I think it would have to have to be quite high in alcohol so beer probably wouldn't work....if you want the medical equivalent of rubbing alcohol (which is a US thing I think) then surgical spirit would probably be your best bet....

Can I recommend as a much cheaper but imo better thing -

keep a bottle of witchhazel liquid (about 70p from Boots) in the fridge and add to your pad as needed. Cools the bits down and promotes healing. Is truly marvelous (well not as marvelous as not having a sore fanjo in the first place, but you know what I mean...) and doesn't sting.

Sorry. Durr. Always read the thread before posting. But obv I agree with Expat. Although pouring it on the pad means to do get that cooler sensation for longer...lol
