Just found a thread from June about this (was doing a google search ona work related matter - promise!)

I was horrified to read the posts. Did the mums spare a thought for the poor expectant mum who asked for input? If I'd been her, I'd have been utterly terrified.

I had my baby there in July 06 and while the birth experience itself was awful (in that I ended up having an emergency c-section after a failed indcution - none of which I'd wanted), the facilities were excellent and the staff (bar one midwife) were extremely kind and caring. I was given plenty of assistance with breatfeeding and we were shown how to change and bath the baby the day after she was born. I was also lucky enough to have a bay to myself for one night, although this was simply down to luck.

My dad's always told me, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. In my experience, first time expectant mums don't need anything else to worry about.

I was honest about my experience and how it affected me. We were asked for honest opinions. If I had read such info before my baby was due then I would have avoided the place. Sorry if it annoyed you. You sound like you were well looked after - I wasn't.

Well the nice thing about the PRUH is that there are other choices of hospital near by. In which case an honest opinion can be helpful. And you can make a decision to avoid it if you want to.

Having given birth in a different hospital now I would never go back there now. I did it twice. Weirdly everyone moaned about the hospital I had ds3 in, but compared to the then Farnborough the care was streets ahead.

Yes, I wish I had gone for Queen Mary's instead, even though I had heard bad things about it from a few years back.

Hi
My experience at PRUH in July 2006 was very good. Had same midwife the whole 8am to 5pm. She was my rock during the birth. Had own room and stayed for 3 days. Only complaint was very hot in hosptial as no air con. Delivery rooms were not hot though.
Just thought I'd add a good experience :-)

The problem is it is all down to luck - one woman has a great time becuase the midwives on duty are lovely and the ward is quiet. The next day can see people shoved in public wards in labour with rude overstaffed midwives. Luck of the draw.

wotulookinat so sorry you had such a rough time your experience sounds awful.

Unfortunately there are some midwives that are not worthy of their profession.
