Mine hurt much more the second time, so I must have packed an awful lot of sin into 2 years.

My God, I must have been a sinner before having DS1!

Oh puuuuuuuuuurleeeeeeease! I am a Christian. I do not believe that shite. Neither do most Christians.

She is spouting an idea that was origionally put forward by early church fathers who tried to use the bible to justify the oppression of women.

I know we all have different birth experiences with each child. Some it is worse first time, others with subsequent baby (babies).

I think that for many women the first is more painful, but this may be linked to the fact that the labour is often longer for first babies. Also more first babies (I think) are induced. Also it can for some women be frightening as it is their first experience of labour/birth.

Personally my 2nd birth was great but my first awful. Nothing to do with sin and everything to do with being induced imo. 2nd time I also had a wonderful midwife and that made a difference.

Wow my first birth was easier than second. I must have been a devil in 20 months between them.

girlandboy Mon 07-Jul-08 13:19:50

I think she's reading the bible very literally.
My second birth was way more painful, because he was a huge baby, and got a bit stuck. Waters didn't break naturally, and I got more frightened than with my first birth, because it wasn't as straightforward.
Either that, or I was a great big fat sinner!
I'm a Christian, but I don't take the bible as literal.

second time hurts less because you still have a bucket fanny from the first time grin

After the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, Adam was made to toil (work) whilst Eve was condemned to pain in child birth. However "Christians" should believe that as Jesus died for our sins on the cross, those old punishments don't have a hold any more. That's why there's a New Testement - a new truth to believe in. Nobody is made to pay for their sins if they believe that Jesus died for them.

she isn't taking into consideration twins.

and people who are v. virtuous like me.

LynetteScavo Mon 07-Jul-08 13:45:31

I'm with memoo on this one!

amybswansea Mon 07-Jul-08 14:02:03

How do epidurals fit into this?

onepieceoflollipop Mon 07-Jul-08 14:03:57

Amy well between dd1 and dd2 I was impeccably behaved so I didn't (obviously) need an epidural 2nd time round. I had a few whiffs of gas and air, that pain was payment for the odd moan at dh during pg! wink

LynetteScavo Mon 07-Jul-08 14:06:03

She's probably the kind of Christian that doesn't beleive in epidurals.

Essie3 Mon 07-Jul-08 14:17:49

Rather a medieval view - long essays were written on this type of thing in the middle ages!
Also a Christian, but a laidback one and I'm really quite annoyed that men have given Eve all the blame. I mean, how stupid was Adam? And what was the serpent doing there in the first place?

Okaaay, don't respond - I'm a Christian who very nearly went to church with baby poo down my front yesterday, so don't listen to me!
