Madness

This morning I saw a Mum with a new baby (I'm a HV). She is a really experienced mum and this is her third baby. Her second baby arrived at home before a midwife could reach her so, not unsurprisingly, she thought she'd book a homebirth this time. Do you know that they said "No". The reasons being because she carries some unusual antibodies in her blood. So what happened - you've guessed it - she went into labour and had another rapid delivery (the second one Dad has delivered). Why couldn't they have just booked her for a homebirth in the first place - it was just so obvious she was never going to reach hospital. I know the midwife may not have reached her in time even then but at least they'd have had the equipment there.
It's this sort of madness that made me leave midwifery.
Anyone else experienced this type of maternity madness?

I didn't think they could say 'no' if you were determined anyway? It's just not everyone knows that unfortunately.

Poor woman - although nice she got to deliver at home anyway

my mum had 3 perfectly normal, gorgeous, intelligent girls ..... anyway, at age 39 (1982) she had an unplanned pregnancy and because of her age they insisted on hauling her in on her due date for an induction. Madness. Oh, and my sister was born at home.

Makes me cross. Every woman was legally entitled to a home birth last time I checked.
