My first labour was so mild, got to hosp at about 6pm, dd1 born at 7.25, gas and air it was like pushing out warm jelly , i was 19yrs old then, and had had worse dentist treatments, my second labour was harsh, contractions alot more painful, got to hosp atabout 5pm, dd2 born about 1.30am still only gas and air but OUCH !! was like pushing out a truck, i was 21 then, and i think i went in expecting it to be easy like the first, boy did i get a rude awakening ! am due my third in early sept and am panicking about giving birth already,(i'm 36yrs old now) some say the third is so much easier, but alot of people say my age will play a factor, any tips, advice experiences would be soo welcome

I was 39 when I had No 3. Eight hour labour, huge baby, no stitches, waterbirth.
In your case, so much time has elapsed since your last labour, your body will have forgotten about it. I do not think your age will be a factor - I had easier births in my 30s than many women I knew in their 20s.

I have three DSs and the third birth was definitely the best of the three. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy! Don't worry!

I had my DCs when I was aged 32, 34 & 35. They just got quicker - DC3 was under an hour at home, I was very relaxed and it was all very manageable and lovely. Three pushes, job done! The afterpains were much worse though - just have plenty of painkillers to hand to deal with that.

DC4 is due anytime and I'm almost 39.

(And I did get fit again after my 3rd, tummy muscles and pelvic floor were fine).

My third was fab. Minimal labour, his little head popped out and made cute gurgling noises before the body even followed. At home. No durgs. Utter bliss. (In so much as any birth can be that is.)

My first was 19 hours establisaby's head was hitting te wrnghed labour got an epidural in the last 2 hours slow building and bareable but very, very tiring she was back to back.

My second was 40 mins established hurt like hell and I threw away the gas and air.

My third was a homebirth. My waters broke naturally 12 hours earlier this had never happened before, It really felt like labour when I started pushing which was when I started onthe G&A I think due to me being dry and baby's head was at the wrong angle pushing lasted about 30 mins and it really did feel lke labour. That said it was the best labour of the lot because I felt in control.

My 3rd was by far the most productive I have had.

Quite painful but that is because I waited until the last minute to accept G&A and so I was very aware of what was going on. Only took 6 minutes of pushing so just as I started to cry out in pain....it was all over.

my 3 rd was the most difficult but that was because i was induced due to my waters breaking with no labour, i had an epidural and ended up in theatre with a ventouse. was by far the least painful very differnent from first 2 labours though, with my 1st two my waters went during transition, 3rd they went before any contractions. also my contractions started and stopped with my third whilst with the first 2 once they had started that was it i was off.
times were 1st 9 hr established labour, 2nd stage 1 1/2 hrs
2nd 3 hr established labour, 2nd stage 2 mins
3rd 6 hrs established,

Can we have some more lovely 3rd labour stories please, no3 due in July.

My first two were:

DD1 4h20m waters went first, v intense and painful, G&A only (not through choice)

DD2 2h30m waters broken by MWs at end, homebirth, again v intense and painful, G&A only

I was hoping a few good coughs and she might fall out

My 3rd was definitely the best.

1st was induced, complications, almost a section, ventouse. Scary!

2nd was shockingly fast.

3rd was LOVELY. Started with very mild contractions at night - able to sleep through them. Got to hospital at 6.30. Baby born at 9am. No pain relief. Hardly any pain (honest!) Home in time to collect older two from school.

Good luck with yours!

I second Porpoise in pain department. this time felt intense pressure with each contraction but would hardly say I was in screaming agony pain.

DS1 - cx started at 1am. Quite slow progress, got to hospital around 11am, 6cm dilated. Was manageable until waters broke and ds was born at 4.20pm after a lot of pushing.

DS2 - got to hospital at 8am as hind waters had gone. Cx started soon after. Cx manageable until around 4pm when main waters were broken, ds born at 5.30pm.

DS3 - cx started at 6pm, really mild only every 10mins. Went to bed at 10pm, woke up at 11.15pm with stronger cx but 15 mins apart. Got up at midnight thinking I had a long way to go but by 1pm cx were 4mins apart and strong. Got to hospital around 2am and ds was born at 3.16 after 3 pushes. Cx were different third time around as he was back to back but a much quicker and better labour. Probably could have been quicker but I was crossing my legs during cx for a while before I realised that meant I needed to push.

1st was hell
(had epidural but it wore off)

2nd was ok - no p[ain relief and painful but much quicker than No1 and therefore OK. also i got a medal for no pain relief.

3rd was worse than I remembered No2, but also quick.

but with a 15 year gap, isn't it a bit like a first one anyway? or did I imagine that? and wow, a 15 year gap! it'll be like having a whole second family, and you'll have babysitters and everything. you'll be fine.

3rd for me was very similar to my 2nd except the only 'bad' thing about it was that I had about 2 weeks of false labour every other night keeping me awake. The actual labour was fine, my best experience really
