Anyone else overdue and not want an induction?

Am currently 10 days overdue and went to Anti natal clinic today. Was told that I wasn't ready for a membrane sweep, as cervix not ripe (Bishop's score of 1!), but feel like I'm being pushed into an induction, which I really don't want. Is anyone else out there in the same position, or been here previously. I'm happy to wait so long as baby is happy and healthy and dp very supportive (bless).

I'm due back on Tuesday, possibly for an induction (best to keep options open) what questions should I ask? Any advice would be great. Sorry for the long message... really just want to do what my body says is right.

Thanks

Hi ispyjen.
Am new to this- was just searching for some answers and came across you message. i am currently 8 days overdue. went for a sweep yesterday and when she did the external measurements and feel, she said baby wasnt engaged and probably looking up. so she didnt want to do sweep as cord could prolapse down. so going for another attempt tomorrow at the hospital. if they still cant do it then consultant on tuesday. am booked in for induction on thursday.
i am also anxious about induction, etc. am also very anxious as i think his head is too big for my pelvis so reckon i am going to end up having ceaser anyway. i dont know what to ask also. i just feel the longer i wait the bigger he gets and less likely having natural.

They wanted to induce me at day 10 but pursuaded them to let me go until 14 days over.Fate intervened and had ds 10 days over,I also was assessed at the anc when 8 days over and was told something similar to you, couldn't get tip of finger in cervix, head high etc and I went into labour the next night so you never know!
Think there is some evidence of increased risk to baby after 2 weeks past due date but have to weight up against less chance of normal delivery if induced. I was certainly happy to go 2 weeks over but would have wanted some monitoring etc if any more than that.

I am six days over (supposedly) and dont want an induction. In fact if I can keep going till April 5th DD will be born on my birthday.
Like the OP I am in no hurry as long as baby is healthy.

So glad to hear others in same position! I am now 12 days over and went to see an accupuncturist to see if anything would happen. (Great service - she opened specialy on a Sunday for me!) Had period pains and twinges but waiting to see what will happen. As this is first I don't reall know what I'm looking for... Fingers crossed though. We are willing to wait until Friday I think...

Glad to know it's not just me. Am three days over but have slightly raised blood pressure so obstetrician wants to induce. Was induced with DD because of high bp and it was pretty grim so would rather wait. Doubt they'll let me go much overdue though...

Went into hopsital this morning and spoke to lovely midwife and doctor (much nicer than midwife I saw on Firday). They said fine, we'll take it one day at a time, and monitored me - I am having little contractions, but not real ones - then gave me a membrane sweep (only slightly uncomfortable) and told me to keep moving and hope for the best. Back in tomorrow at 11 if no movement before then... might be a mum by tommorow!

I went again(!) for another attempt at a sweep on sunday and again today. she didnt want to do it- again- the head is too high. Had a show yesterday until today. my cervix is effacing now but only about 1/2cm dilated but still no action. I am now 41 + 4. So- the question- do i go for an induction? (booked for thursday so in tomorrow for the pessary) or should i wait unitl monday (in on sunday?). any suggestions?

Well something must have worked as I went into labour on Wednesday. DS was born at 6.01am on Thursday by ceasarean. Quite glad about this as he was 91b 3oz! and 16 days over. Now have a whole new set of things to worry about, mostly breastfeeding!

Good luck to everyone else waiting, and thanks for your support... see you on the nappy/feeding/sleeping threads soon...

By th e way, I think its worth waiting a bit. A friend of mine, not an obstetrician but an aneathetist, so maybe not a great judge but he's seen a lot of babies, said my LO doesn't look 2 weeks overcooked... And he's definitely worth the wait.

Let me know how you get on...

Ispyjen come join us on the overdue thread (entitled Peachy and VS's.... something or other)

I don't want an induction at all (am 41 weeks) but I can't commit to expectant management- I have 3 childrenb, 2 are disabled and I simply cannot attend the hospital very easily (no childcare). Have a sweep tomorrrow, and yhave accepted that i will have to agree to induction as soon as posible just to make things manageable.

with expectant management do they always offer a scan every day or do they sometimes only do CTG's every day?

I had the same problem so I went for the last date that they gave me. I went in the afternoon before to be induced the following morning and had my DS naturally before they got around to starting!
