Induction ! What does it mean in terms of trying to have as natural experience as possible ?

Hi all i am 40 + 12 today and am booked in for induction tom.
I had hoped for home water birth so obviously far removed from this.
Now i am going to be induced does this mean a water birth is out of the question ?
Also what would they use to get things going ?
This is dc no.3 and i had induction with ds and natural birth with dd.
My experience of induction was two days of internals, gel, drip, constant monitoring, baby getting distressed, consultant getting prepped for c section and a forceps delivery!
TIA

I was induced at 40 +12 but still had a water birth and no drugs. Just had a gel put in at about 8 am then went for a very long walk. No contractions until about 2pm - then they came thick and fast (but not unbearable). Went round to delivery suite about 3pm and asked them to fill the pool up, got in, waters broke and dc3 born in pool at about 4.30pm.

Labour was very similar to dc2 in terms of length, progress and feeling. Had tried everything (sweeps, curry, pineapple etc) to get dc3 moving but he was not having any of it!

Good luck, hope all goes well.

Lilyloo,

I was induced with ds1 and it was fine. Have they checked your cervix? If it's favorable than it can be a very fast process. With ds1 I had the gel overnight, then waters broken, drip. There were minimal internals, and was 24 hours from gel to birth and 12 hours from drip to birth. Was not a bad experience at all. And of my two births, definitely my favorite (although ds2 was natural labor). Ask for a walking drip so you aren't stuck on your back the whole time.

Good luck.

hi lily

my best friend was induced the week before christmas

she went in on the friday night, think they put the gel in about 10pm, contractions started almost straight away, got painful about 3am so they called her dh back, and she had the baby at 5am.

9lb 4oz and everything was fine!

so there are some good stories out there.

best of luck will be thinking of you

also wondering about whether you are happy to be induced tom or would prefer expectant management? have you had a sweep? that worked within literally minutes for me, I was 40 ~+8, and it meant basically no difference to the labour at all.
it's worth being a bit more prepared for the 'cascade of interventions' and trying to stay as active as pos but there have been loads of stories on here about inductions that went fast and normal. I'd imagine there is a difference between 1st birth and 3rd, hopefully your body will be faster at the whole thing now it knows what to do

Thanks all , no medical reason for induction. I have had one sweep so was going to ask for maybe another first off when i get there to see if that can get things going.
Last Thurs she said my cervix was very soft and not to expect to go as long as week for induction, here i am
I haven't been seen by anyone since then.
