Gas & Air

Thinking about using G&A for labour but have read many posts where it has made woman sick! So if you used G&A for labour, please let me know if it worked or made you sick! Thanks!

Gas and air is fab. NEVER made me feel or be sick, but it does to a lot of people. Very effective pain relief in my opinion. Worth having a go!

Used it with both labours and didn't make me sick - it was fab. It only stays in your system for a few minutes after you inhale it so probably worth trying it, and if it makes you sick or you don't like the sensation just stop using it straight away. Good luck!

Hated G&A with my first.

Loved it with second.

I did feel sick the second time for a little while but I wasn't actually sick.

I hated it. It made me feel out of control and dizzy. I must stress though, I am tee-total so have no experience of that 'drunk feeling' so it scared me. I had a 6hr second stage (after a 24hr first stage) and protracted transfer to hospital and G&A was the only option so had to use it. I didn't feel sick though!

It made me feel a bit sick/woozy at the beginning but once I got used to it it was brilliant. I'd say definitely give it a go for half an hour or so and see what you feel like after that.

i used it with my first and i wouldn;t recommend it it made out of controll and it was like being in loads of pain whilst drunk...awful

with my second didn't use anything and went quicker and easier cos i could do what the midwife was telling me

I loved gas and air. They had to gently wrestle it from me, saying 'your baby has born, you can stop using it now'

i love g&a wish they sold it in odd bins hasnt made me sick but i know a couple of friends who cant stand it. takes a couple of contractions to get the hang of it as you have to start breathing it in at the very start of each one. mouth piece gives you something to bite down on as well, mine always ends up flatterned

On the subject of the mouth piece - am I right in presuming they give you a new one each time? I mean I'm not going to be biting down on an already bitten down mouthpiece am I??

Worked fantastically. Felt like I'd had a litre of vodka! Felt a bit sick when I took in too much, but the feeling wore off in seconds, and I quickly got the hang of how and when to use it.

I loved it. Wish I could keep it at home for bad days! I had three labours and no other pain relief so it worked very well for me.

I used it with my first in hospital and didn't think it did much. I prob had the technique wrong.
It didn't make me feel sick but it made my mouth very, very dry which felt nasty.

I didn't use it for my second birth at home because it was quick and I felt that the G&A wouldn't have touched the pain by the time I wanted something. So I didn't bother!

It was pretty good, towards the end it wasn't strong enough (i was induced). It did make me feel like i was going to be sick but i wasn't. The first few intakes were great. But i did feel a bit out of it (like i was watching myself giving birth)

It worked but I behaved like I was drunk and kind of ruined my memories of the event as I felt so out of it. Would like to say I won't use it next time but guess it's better than anything stronger - and better than that pain!

I didn't like gas and air for labour because it stopped me being able to control my breathing. I found that while it did dull the pain a bit, I preferred to be in control of my breathing. It was fab to use while I was being stitched up afterwards though!

It didn't make me feel sick, though.

used gas and air with my first and i was sick once but it took my mind off the pain and with my second no sickness, just felt mildly drunk and spinny, would definately recommend! peach123

I loved G&A! Felt very pissed when I first got hold of it, but soon got the hang of it and it really helped! Very effective for me and never made me feel sick

i found it really helpful, if only to remind me to breathe !! the first few contractions, i didn;t like it, but after a while, i got into it.. MW told me to put it down for second stage, i refused, so DH had to wrestle it off me whilst i growled at him! as spugs has said, it is good to bite on !

It was brilliant for me. Didn't feel sick atall. Gave me something to concentrate on, makes you control your breathing and also good to bite on mouthpiece as has been said.

As the effects wear off quickly, suggest you give it a try and stop if you don't like it.

It is wonderful stuff. New mouthpiece for each new patient. Great for biting down on. In fact I bit through one and had to have a second one when in labour with dd. No sickness here, just giggles.
