Hi all,

Im 37 weeks tomorrow and since monday my baby movements have dramatically reduced, also as of yesterday im am very uncomfortable down below, its sometimes feels like pressure and sometimes it just hurts!

I saw my Midwife yesterday who thinks the head has engaged more then last week and listened to the heartbeat and all is ok.
Ive been getting BH contractions for a couple of weeks now on and off which i been getting some quite uncomfortable period pain ones.

Could this mean im slowly going into labour?? (my midwife doesnt seem to think i will go past xmas, but hasnt said anything else)

Keep an eye on those movements. Make sure you have 10 in a 12 hour period.

Im think im getting ten movements, but its like one and thats it. It has stopped wriggling around like it did do, but the midwife listened in yesterday and all was fine and i have a scan tomorrow so will tell the doctor then.

I am not normally an alarmist at all, but if the movements have slowed down I would suggest that you phone delivery suite and ask them to monitor you. I know the midwife has listened in, but this doesn't have the same predictive value as the CTG where they look at the baby's heartrate over 20-30 mins. They won't mind seeing you and should reassure you that everything's OK.

The vigorous somersaulting tends to tail off when the baby runs out of space. But one-off jabs and stretches are fine as movement. Good luck with scan.

Are you booked for a hospital birth? Pack your own Christmas dinner - I bet the NHS one is vile!!!

Yes i am, even worse i live in germany and then dont do roast turkey like we do. But they do let you have food brought in so in the unlikely event of being over xmas day i can have my dinner brought to me thank god!!

I tend to panic about movements dropping down as my son did that, we couldn't get him to move with the usual chocolate and banana milk and it was only by luck he lasted another day as the M/W didn't check properly. Ended up with an emergency section at 38 weeks.

I had a day last week when i was concerned and went to be checked. This time i dont fell to worried as i have felt things its just not dancing around anymore like it did. How come you ended up with an emergency c section, what was up??

Im just asumming the slow down is due to baby becoming engaged and that hopefully labour is on its way!!!

The machine seemed to be suggesting I was having contractions and the baby's heart rate was taking too long to recover. I went for a scheduled scan and there was something on there that told the sonographer they needed to get this baby out. Apart from having polyhydromnious and the consultant saying he wouldn't have survived a vaginal delivery, we have never found out what was wrong.

Im not to worried as i have a scan tomorrow otherwise i would prob be getting it checked out.

Does this sound like anything starting to anyone then??

How did your scan go?

Any progress?

Well baby is fine, still showing small for dates which is why im been scanned more regular.

But they have found that i have a notch in my left uterine artery so have to go back next week, he said they have to keep a check for pre-e, but i also guess they will check babys growth in that week as it appeared to me to have slowed down!

Will def get checked straight away if worried about movements again, but he/she is still alot quiter then he/she was but then i guess thats is to happen at some point towards the end!

I do think that is an old wives tale. The baby should still be having the same movement patterns. My son was an active baby and then just stopped. With my daughter it was harder to assess as she wasn't a big mover anyway. I was scanned weekly towards the end as it wasn't really known what had been wrong with her brother.

Its hard to know what to think, but i cant really go and get it checked everyday as they will think i am bonkers. I have decided as long as i feel 10 movements even if they are tiny ones then all is ok. Only gotta go till thursday now! Im kinda hoping they will suggest delievery as i would feel happyier this one being out then in now so i know he/she is getting everything it needs!!

I wouldn't care what they thought. If I had done that I wouldn't have my son. This is your baby and if you aren't sure, go and get checked. It is their job to do that.

second what MAB said as my friend doesnt have her son because mobvenments stopped/slowed down and she thought that was what was meant to happen near due date . sorry dont want to scare you. just dont wnat to see the same thing happen to someone else. and they will not think you are bonkers. even if you have to go in every day and have trace done its better that and a healthy baby than the other option which is too awful to even contemplate.

didsnbump, please don't worry about what they think, the important thing is that your baby is OK. Did you tell them that the movements had slowed down? Did they put you on a CTG while you were there or just the scan?

Report
didsnbump · 22/12/2007 22:56

Yeah they did the ctg first which was fine, i then told the doctor who did the scan about the lack of movements, so he did a full scan checking all the bloodflows, but typically baby moved around loads while he did the scan, so didnt really help my plea if you know what i mean.

But baby has had a better day today and i have felt his/her foot in the usuall places again which has been nice, but will def go get it checked if im worried between now and thursday.

Would it be really wrong to ask to be induced though if the movements havent remained constant when i go back on thursday, with baby showing small and me having this notch in my uterine artery. Just would feel happyier bringing this one into the world then run any risk??????

That sounds reassuring. I think it would be perfectly reasonable to discuss early induction, but remember that induction itself carries risks and it's a matter or balancing up the benefits and risks. Hope you have a good Christmas and you meet your baby really soon. Let us know how you get on next week
