First period after giving birth (Sorry if TMI)

Looking for some advice i gave birth to my lo just over 5 weeks ago. I started my first period two days ago and it seemed pretty normal however yesterday it started getting really heavy, this morning its even worse and (here comes the tmi) when i went to toilet this morning there was a smallish puddle of blood on the floor. I'm having to change my towel every hour and i can actually feel the blood coming out (i know way TMI). There aren't any big clots but there are some average size ones.

Is this normal for a first period after giving birth - i was prepared for the big bleed straight after i gave birth but this is a lot worse.

Hope some one can put my mind at ease - thanks a lot.

yes, same here.
Very heavy bleeding, i actually thought there was something serious going on downthere.
Went to the GP, i can't remember whether i was given anything or not....but it got better.....HTH

Ok so the heavy bleeding is normal then - would you say i should go to gp or just leave it at the mo. Lo has her 6 week check tomorrow and i have my 6 week check n Friday so if its still bad i could always say to them there. I really don't like going to doctors and its difficult to get an emergancy apptment here

Sounds perfectly normal to me. My first period after DS1 was just like that and went on for 10 days , usually its 3-4. Went to the gp about it and he just rolled his eyes at me, i felt about 2inches tall!!! Wish I'd known about mumsnet back then

I would still ask, when you take the lo to the dr, especially if you get a female GP. It can never hurt to ask and it might be useful.

It seems to have calmed down a wee bit - but will take your advise phd and say to doc tomorrow.
