Can I have a show of hands if your baby was posterior yet you still went into labour before induction?

Pregnant with number 3 and this baby, like the last 2 has turned posterior.

My other babies were very late and induced eventually and I cant help but make the connection in my head that posterior = late due to not enough pressure from babies head on cervix etc

I would be really interested to hear about people who had babies in posterior positions yet still went into labour on their own/on time!

Thanking you~!

Both of mine were posterior, late but no induction
With DS it took a 2 mile walk to get things going

oohhh this is encouraging, late I can just about cope with (but would obv rather be nearer 40 weeks as Im getting sick of it!) but happy to be as late as baby needs as long as I go into labour eventually.

I have never gone into labour naturally and I REALLY want to!

DS was OP and 6 days late...but I went into labour naturally.

Was slow, though. Slow but very manageable.

OP baby born on due date !!

Had a hind water leak 2 days before i was due. had had a show at 39 weeks after a sweep ( i know, i know, but i cried a lot and got one ) went to be checked out, told waters intact, sent home. Stopped for a kebab with extra chilli on the way home and woke up in labour the next morning. DD born, VBAC, on her due date after 3 1/4 hour established labour. 15 hours of contractions to get to 3cm due to position, stay on your feet, swing your hips, birth ball... you know the drill !!

~Ohhh Camilla, I never realised your DD had been posterior.

I dont know WHY I put so much emphasis on it! Definitely to iron this out before it becomes a real problem and probably prevents me going into labour!

My history with the other two was VERrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long latent phase but as soon as in established labour I went pretty quickly and they turned

I just really want to do the latent bit at home, rocking my hips and doing what I need to do!

Yep! Show and start of contractions 3 days before due date, DD born on due date. Little monkey still didn't turn though, so born in the charmingly named "face to pubis" position.

Peckpeck, lovely to see you! How long have you got till baby is due?

W. was posterior for a few weeks, turned at about 38/39 weeks, but somehow he kept spinning I think - he was ROA when I went into labour, was presumably on the way round to LOA (ideal apparently isn't it? Can't remember) and he was half way round when he came out stargazing.

I'm not sure how it works but I know people whose babies were never in the 'right' position prior to labour, or during labour, and either turned late before they came out, or came out OP.
HTH a bit

Dd was a posterior presentation.

Ok good news is that I went into labour on my due date. BAD news is that she was delievered 2 days AFTER my due date, and this is 2 years after a straightforward 1 hour labour with my son.

I have just done a brief google for information on posterior presentation and have been a bit shocked by stuff like high risk of caesareans, etc. Dd was born in a birthing unit, I had gas and air and pethadine (pethadine because it was a long active labour and I needed to rest, not really because the pain was especially awful).

26 years ago my brother was born at home, also a posterior presentation.

I was briefly admitted to the ward (loong story) before the birthing unit, and at that I will say is that I got a lot of pressure do to things to accelerate the labour. I can see how that might have sprialled into monitoring, and ultimately a caesarean due to failure to progress. Certainly we were outside those "1 cm per hour" or whatever recomendations. But it would have been utterly unecessary, dd was born in her own time and we went home a few hours later. Slow labours are quite common with posterior presentations, I think.

One tip-do consider cranial osteopathy after this sort of birth. Am not one for herbal stuff but it really did help dd settle.

All three of mine were OP
DS1 - 8 days late, 12 hour labour
DS2 - induced at 40+10, 4 hour labour, wish I hadn't let myself be pressured into the induction, but I was huge and very uncomfortable due to his head on my cocyx (bloody awful back pain)
DD - 11 days late, 4 hour labour

I have to say I didn't realise there were issues with OP labours until after I started MNing - I'm not sure if I was just lucky with my labours, or if not knowing there could be complications, made it less likely I'd get them iyswim.

Nice to see you again too Pecka, haven't noticed you posting lately. Good luck with the birth, hope it goes quickly

Staying on your feet /upright on a ball helped me loads.

The first time took days. The second was a few niggles one day. Next day stronger niggles all day. I was 3cm at 5.30pm and deliverd at 7.08. 8minute second stage. Nothing but a tens!

my 2nd was a homebirth too.

DS1 was OP and born of his own freewill on time.

Both my babies were posterior. Went into labour day after due dates. Ended up having c sections with both. DS1 presented posterior quite a while before due date and labour was very very slow. DS2 did not present posterior until I went into labour, got to the hospital, had exam and then consultant came into see me straight away and said there is not point in going any further with this - we will prep you now for c section.

Both my babies were 9lb 4 and 9lb 6 and consultant said I would probably not be able to have a vag delivery anyway with posterior babies as I am so small and only 5ft.

My first and fourth babies were posterior. With my first, my waters broke, but I did not go into spontaneous labour and had to be induced. I won't tell you what a terrible time ensued. Best not to know.

However, with my fourth baby I went into spontaneous labour, the 2nd stage did last slightly longer than the MWs expected, but they did not know why until ds3 was born. He was born still in the posterior position. It was a big surprise to all and amazingly, given that ds1 was such a difficult birth, ds3 was very easy. So there is every hope for you I would say. Try not to worry.

mine was posterior, she came 8 days late. i refused stretch and sweep, and would have had monitoring before i'd have considered an induction.

erm mine both turned as they went into the birth canal though. Forgot about that.
