Dunno if you remember chatting to me on your "bad experience in labour - come here and I will help you" thread but thought you might appreciate the follow-up:

I phoned my MLU to ask for the Maternity Services Liaison Committee. "The WHAT?"
"The Maternity Servicse Liaison Committee."
"Sorry, let me just ask... None of us have heard of it (!), can we take your number and call you back?"
"No I shall try the next nearest hospital." (Where in fact I gave birth, but since I'd been to the first place for all my ante-natal care that was the number I could remember!)

So I got through to the 2nd MLU, first person hadn't heard of it either (!!), 2nd person took my number and said they knew an MW who sat on it, would get her to call me back. But I'm a-still a-waitin'...

Am thinking that letter is even more necessary, now

Oh, bloody hellfire! Can you get in touch with the PALS at your hospital?

tbh I was getting a bit bolshie, just thought I'd send my letter to, you know, director of the trust, head of obstetrics, both MLU's, the consultant midwife, the canteen, flower shop... figured sooner or later it'd get to right person and they might appreciate finding out how no-one knows who they are!

Patient Liaison Services - every hospital has one (or is meant to...!). LOL at sending letter to canteen - might get a better response

Sorry for interrupting but the PALS service is usually based at your local Primary Care Trust (well it is in our area anyway). They are there to handle all patient related complaints but there should also be a Director or Assistant Director who is 'in charge' of all maternity services who you could write to.

I would contact your PCT and find out who the appropriate person is and make sure you address it to them directly.

Yes thanks mishy - seeing as they didn't even know they had a MSLC I'm about them knowing they have a PALS. Will try though...

Say, does anyone know what the ranks of midwives are?

There's a boss one, who directs the evening's entertainment; then community ones who I guess get called in if necessary? And what are the women in white (not blue) uniforms called? Don't think they were actually midwives, but can't remember if or how they were introduced...

have you tried speaking to the head of midwifery or consultant midwife, one or both of them will be on the MSLC if it exists...
