Hi - Have a c-section booked but due to Heart condition found yesturday. Consultants want to call me in on Wednesday and start induction with gel and then waters broken if nescessary, leave me for two days and if nothing happens do c-section on Friday morning. Really scared I will go through unnescary pain to end up with section on friday. Please can you tell me does it work, any positive stories out there or not. Im 41 yrs old and had my last baby 16 years ago so not sure how body will react, but other two pregnancies were vaginal and quite good. Looking for some good reassurance and adivce if pos if you have any please, also love to hear from any midwifes that can help. Thought I had it all sorted and c-section booked but today ive been knocked a bit and feeling low about the whole situation, although I want whats good for my baby. Sorry its long and I have rampled on, really worried about it all.

i doulaed a lady who was in her 40s, and had been over a decade since her last deliver. she had a history of very quick labours, and that was one of the reasons why she was being induced. she was induced at 38 weeks, second dose of gel got her going, baby arrived 2.5 hours later. so her delivery followed the patter of her previous ones, even with a large gap! hope that helps and your induction goes well.

being active , upright, mobile, on a birth ball, walking all help more than lying in a bed ..

damn, so sorry to only see this now.

i had induction on due date at age 38 for borderline high blood pressure. two doses of gel, not much action for 1.5 days, then waters broke, contractions for a day. very bearable with concentration and bit of gas and air. got tired and dehydrated tho'. asked how much longer - estimated 8 hours. asked for and promptly got epidural. this was very good, as allowed rest for a few hours, then let it wear off enough for feeling where to bear down. was able to walk two hours after birth.

only problem with induction from my point of view was when the syntocin drip blocked (aka tissued) and the monitoring machine for it said it was still running thru (into tissue of hand!) medics wouldn't believe me, but midwife did and flushed it with saline now and then. giving a bonkers stop/start 2nd stage of labour. i had words with them eventually about it and it was resited.

i recovered OK, but baby jaundiced and dehydrated after long labour and needed phototherapy for 4 days.

from what i hear, my experience somewhat par for course (except i had no ventouse and forceps). i expect this is too late to inform you, but gives some idea of how things might go? good luck, and i look forward to seeing your birth announcement.

Merryberry - No not to late, not going for week or so. So was not too painful then . Thanks for posting it really helps. They have c-section lined up fpr Friday so if nothing happens or it turns problematic they will stop or do c-section asap. Midwife informed me of that today so feeling bit better. Thanks so much Merryberry.

Lulumummy - Thanks for your posting, OMG she done really well, I had a 36 hour normal on first and a 4.5 hour on second, second was out with no stitches and only gas and air, but again it was 16 years ago!!!. Thanks for sharing that it is really positive.

Midewife had to examine me today as I was feeling pain and not much movement but deffo had a strong heartbeat from LO. She said cervix was bit far back but softening and I was 1cm and she could get in one finger, so do you think things may happen naturally???? Only having aches at mo lower down nothing ongoing. At mo keeping an eye on movement as it has been really quite today had to feel around for the slightest move
