Induction at 38+5

I'm booked in for induction on the 24th when I'll be 38+5 with ds2. I have been told I will get started on the 6 hour pessary. Looking for experiences from those that have had the 6 hour pessary and can tell me roughly how long it took to get things started. I know it depends on how ready my body is, I have a sweep on the 22nd so hoping that kick starts things before I'm induced.

Hi I was induced at 37+4.
I had the pessary and 6 hours later I had another pessary as nothing had happened. Used this time to do laps of the hospital and bounce on the ball. This got me to 3cm with no regular pains, they then broke my waters (this was agony and I needed gas and air) and my daughter was born 2 hours later. It was 0-100 real quick! No time for anything more than gas and air but unfortunately I suffered a retainer placenta which required manual removal under spinal block.
Put it this way when we decide to have another baby I wouldn't mind another induction.
Good luck!!

I had an induction at 38+2 with a pessary.
They gave me the pessary around 1pm, we went had had lunch at the hospital canteen, did a walk round the park next door and by the time we got back to the ward at 2.30pm I was having regular contractions
I had an epidural in the end (which was amazing) and baby was born around midnight

I was induced at 36+2 with the pessary due to pre eclampsia so a bit earlier than you. For me the first pessary didn't do much, got me to 1cm but the midwife said usually it takes 2 for a lot of people. The second took me to 3cm. I had a sweep following this and then they broke my waters. I found this painful and needed gas and air.

The process to get me in labour took 3 days but by the time they'd broke my waters I went from 0-100 and she shot out in 2 hours!

I'm being induced in just over a weeks time with DS when I will be 38+5. Expecting that to be easier as I will be further on and 2cm already :)

Good luck! Don't be shy to ask for pain relief if you need it and the key is to stay as relaxed as possible and move around as much as you can.

Thanks for sharing your experiences ladies. This will be my 2nd induction. My induction with dc1 was very long! They started me with the 24hour pessary first which didnt do a thing despite me already being 2cm. I then had a round of gel. I was in for 4 days before I finally got my waters broken then baby was born 14 hours after that. So nervous it takes days again. I'm anxious of leaving my other son at home for days on end so hoping it's a quick process 🤞. They will be starting me at 8pm so hopefully my body does good things during that night lol.

I was induced at 39 weeks with my second and third baby. I was induced at 41 weeks with my first
All three were straightforward and the first and especially third were very quick. The third a little too quick for my liking !
But I was fine

Good luck and hope it all goes smoothly

I was induced at 40+1. Had the pessary, was going well but then the ward ran out of beds (grrrr) so they delayed giving me the second round. Eventually had the second round the day after. Was told it had failed and book in for c section. 12 hours later I went into labour. Was there for 3 days in total. It's fine... But my one piece of advice was don't expect to go into labour straight away. I was full term and don't think I was ready for it at all.

I was induced at lunchtime Friday and at around 4/5pm experienced very mild period pains which got progressively worse as the evening went on. By around 8 I was struggling but still on the postnatal ward so could only have paracetamol but was shortly moved to labour ward and was 2cm dilated and babys heartbeat was doing with every contraction. Was fully dilated around 5am and started pushing around 7. Unfortunately hadbto have an emcs in the end due to baby's heart rate dipping and meconium in waters

I will admit that my labour was horrifically painful. I felt it all in my bum and it was truly worse than I ever imagined. Had gas an air which helped me focus on something other than the pain anddiamorphine at around 10pm but it didnt even touch the sides. Baby delivered at 9am Saturday

@India999 Same thing happened to me regarding running out of beds when I was being induced with ds1! I was in for 4 days before I eventually had him that night. So anxious it's going to take that long again, the waiting around is the worst part! Also I am in a local lockdown area so restrictions have been placed on my hospital again. Not sure what is going to happen with dh regarding visiting etc.
