Pains afterwards :(

I had no idea how the pains would be after my second but they settled after a few days, thank god.
However, they seem to have started again, is that possible. Im feeling pretty rough, my head hurts, but my tum is killing, especially when i touch it or try and sit up. Should I be worried? My MW isnt due till monday but dont know if i should ring and ask her to come out tomorrow? All my notes say my womb is contracted well. I have SPD, which is still playing up alot, might be linked to that. Any advice would be great, and might stop me feeling sorry for myself
Lisa

Hi lisad123

Can I ask if your vaginal loss (lochia) is offensive?

lisad123 · 29/09/2007 12:16

Sorry I dont know lisad123. All I know is I remember it well. Not nice. None with ds first one and then hurt like hell after dd number 2. I would imagine its nothing to worry about but I would give your mw a call. Your boby is gonna take a while to settle down. Congratulations by the way.

Thanks lisad123

Next question, any record on your delivery notes as to whether the Placenta and membranes were complete?

Sorry if I don't do smileys too easily, but I really do try to help.

Oh L, knew SGK had had the lo but didn't know you had too.

How are all the babies????? or both, even

Ring her, that is what she is there for. My pains, esp when bfing DD2 were wqorse than with DD1 and lasted longer which I believe is normal, after all I guess it takes longer after being stretched out twice. Either that, or I forgot how painful it was after DD1, but I think not.

NNT, thanks, I dont mind the no smiles placenta was all there, trust me they showed me, although there was a bled a few days before, and it was pretty knackered. I developed a womb infection after myDD1 but she was section. I guess im just alittle worried as it had stopped hurting for about 2-3 days.

Bandofmothers, yes I had my little girl 4 days before SGK had her little boy. We are all doing well, thanks. my DD2 does look a lot like SGK son, if you look at pics, there was also only 1/2 pound between their birth weighs

do you have a temperature?

I think just to be on the safe side you should phone your midwife.

Oh, she is so wee!!!!!!

Cool that they will grow up together. My sis (whom I tried to get on here but she now has no pc to do it) had her DD 10 weeks after my DD2 was born and they are very interesting in poking and prodding each other. DD2 13 mths and her DD nearly 1 yo. Sigh, it goes so fast.

I assume baby gothkat is the second piccy, ie not in pink. They do look freakily allike, tho not so surprising I guess. My 2 dd's don't look alike, let alone as their cousin.

I echo belgo's advice regarding your midwife.

There is a difference between afterbirth pains which I know can be pretty horrendous and a uterus which is tender on palpation.

I know that 3/4 days coincides with venous/milk engorgment which can cause temperature and general feeling of malaise, but a 'tender' uterus needs medical attention to exclude puerperal sepsis.

Yes it's rare but excluding it early is sensible.

NNT now im scarced as hell! I have had headache for last 3 days too
I rang midwife from my mums, who was making me dinner, and told to go home and a midwife would visit this afternoon. Got home to message saying "no midwife can come out today, please ring nhs direct" grrrr.
Midwife will come and see me tomorrow. I dont feel really bad, so sure im ok, and properly just everything going back, but if i get any worse will ring them.

Now have to go and decide what to have for dinner as have nithing out ready

I didn't mean to scare you lisad123, if as you say you are not feeling too bad now, then I'm sure you'll be ok.

It was the uterine tenderness and you saying you felt pretty rough that concerned me, especially with it being your second baby.

Take the painkillers and keep your fluid intake up.

When the midwife visits be sure to tell here exactly how you feel and if the tenderness is still there maybe she will do a Low Vaginal Swab (LVS) just to rule out any infection.

I'm really sorry if my post caused you to worry.

I had my DD 8 days ago so was worried, as womb pain stopped a good 3 days ago and this pain started yesterday. Im glad you told me, im keeping a close eye, but sure its ok. will be sure to tell midwife tomorrow or call someone if i get worse

lisa I would ring NHS direct or just go to A&E. Have you been overdoing it????? That would make spd and afterpains worse again even if they had stopped?

Report
Nbg · 29/09/2007 19:57

I think it could be your muscles Lisa.

The pain in your shoulder would account for your headache.

I scared myself witless after I had ds (he was my second) cos I had pains in my shoulders and ended up calling out an emergency doc.
It turned out to be pulled muscles from when I was in labour and just generally holding ds when feeding and stuff.

If your really worried call out a doc and explain that you cant get out of the house because of the children.

I remember getting back/neck/shoulder ache from breastfeeding my big lumps, 10lbers wit wobbly heads add to it all. The jaw ache from biting on the gas & air mouthpiece lasted a nearly a week too....

Report
lisad123 · 29/09/2007 20:17

i think i will wait for the midwife tomorrow. DD2 has been feeding every 2 hours yesterday and today so would account for sore sholders, and the spd pain does cause all sorts of pain elsewhere.
Still feel loads better than i did after my section.

I can't believe I'd forgotton about all those aches & pains I had! I also had really bad headaches thought it was the epidural but after having dd4 without one I realised it was just my body adjusting to not beig pregnant any more - drugs are very helful I got pescribed voltoral to take home last time!
