Delivering baby at 37 weeks

Hi

Due to my own medical condition there is now a possibility of delivering baby at 37 weeks (by Csection - I was having this anyway). I just wanted to get peoples experiences of this? My last baby was overdue and born naturally so this is all a bit scary for me.

I think I just need some reassurance that it will be ok...

37 weeks is considered term so I don’t think you need to worry. My first was born at 36+5 (spontaneous labour) and was absolutely fine just a bit sleepy due to jaundice. Good luck, hope all goes well x

My daughter was born at 37+4 I was induced due to IUGR and she was born small at 5 lb 3 oz. She had jaundice but she didn't need any treatment for it and we left hospital after two nights and one night was only because she was born at 11:50 pm.

My boy was born at 36 weeks, my waters broke early randomly after a total textbook pregnancy. He was absolutely fine, 6lb 5oz so smallish I suppose but not tiny.

My second was born naturally at 37+2, apart from being jaundice and having reflux there were no issues!

I’ve had two at 37 weeks weighing 8lb 4oz and 6lb 11oz. I was given steroids before both c sections which helped with their lungs, I had no problems with either.

had DS in October at 37 weeks, had steroid injections before the C-section to help his lungs and he was a bit jaundice, but all good really!

@littlemissminor how long prior did they keep you in for steroid injections?

My eldest son was born at 37+0 via induction. No ill effects.

FTM. DD (7lb 5oz) was born at 37+1 after induction due to pre-eclampsia. Steroids weren't even mentioned. Only reason we had to stay in afterwards was to monitor me!

DD had a touch of jaundice, so was a bit lethargic initially, but it cleared quickly without needing light therapy. Apart from that, she was (and still is!) perfect.

I was in for 2 days prior - I had gestational diabetes and reduced movements too. I was 37+1 when he was born and I they just wanted to get him out!

@Tatum1234 were the steroids specifically because baby was delivered via C Section? Do they give them closer to term or is it only when they are delivered early?

My twins were induced and born at 36w... had had steroids at 34w due to concerns but made it to 36w. Both jaundiced, one had low blood sugars but that was due to feeding issues. We went home after a week and they are perfect

37 weeks is term so please don’t worry. They give steroid injections to pre term babies or to those born by c section to help mature their lungs but they can often be given as an outpatient.

My dd was born at 36+6 by c section as I was diagnosed with vasa previa at a growth scan the day before. I had two steroid shots 12 hours apart the day before and I'm sure they said they were precautionary because I wasn't yet 37 weeks.
Baby was absolutely fine. Slight jaundice but was fine after a few hours under the blue light.

I had baby by csection 11 weeks ago at 37 weeks and she was fine, quite jaundiced so needed phototherapy. And she only needed nicu time as I had meconium in my waters so she had antibiotics.

I had her then because I'm a type 1 diabetic. And had her by c section as she was off the growth chart lol.

DC2 was a c section after I went into spontaneous labour at 37 weeks and DC4 was an elective c section also at 37 weeks. I had steroids around 34 weeks with DC4.

My hospital gives steroids to all mums delivering by section before 39 weeks, I had them all four times.

DS was born at 37 weeks - no medical intervention/natural delivery. I think he was just in a hurry to meet me Grin.

He was obviously smaller than a lot of babies but not massively so (6 1/2 lbs).

No issues whatsoever. I left hospital with him just over 4 hours after giving birth.

He "caught up" on weight pretty quickly.

I had ds at 37 weeks, perfect textbook pregnancy and then birth 20 minutes after arriving at the mat unit expecting to be checked and sent home, midwife checked me and said we're going to delivery.
It's his first birthday today and he's been a delight so far most days

I've had 2 37 week babies both inductions as was told both times this was classed as full term. My consultant said that he was very pro for babies being delivered at 37 weeks rather than after 40 weeks.
