I think I'm in labour?

I'm a FTM, experiencing what feel like painful contractions every 2.5-3 minutes long and they're last about 40 seconds each time. This has been going on for half an hour now. I lost my mucus plug earlier today after a sweep yesterday. Could this be it?

Could be - your contracting quite fast if so. Have you called the maternity unit? Can you talk through the contraction?

Yep call mat unit. Your contractions are v close together (usually start off around 10 mins apart or more) so I’d want a medical opinion.

I'm still having contractions every 2-3 mins, I'm at the hospital in a birthing room. They checked me about an hour or so ago and I was 2cm, they're keeping me in as it looks like baby is on the way. My god when the contractions peak they hurt! x

I've been sent home, I stayed 4 hours and barely got to 3cms. I'm in bed now but they're so painful, I'm really uncomfortable I'm close to tears. Contractions have been 2-3 mins for nearly 12 hours now and I'm exhausted, I can't sleep.

Do you have anyone with you?

Try a warm bath, the warm water should help with soothing the pains a bit but only if you have someone to help you in and out the bath.

Awww OP I experienced something very similar, hang in there, I know they are so painful. Have a warm bath, keep moving and try not to panic. Try and eat something if you can to keep your energy levels up. You will get there. All the luck in the world Thanks

Hi, it was labour and I delivered my gorgeous baby boy this morning weighing 8Ib 6oz. My contractions were consistently 2-3 mins apart for the duration and they were horrific by the time I got to 5cms. I tried gas and air but it was awful and I kept bring sick so I had an epidural which was amazing! After 32 hours I had to have forceps and an episiotomy but as soon as baby was born I lost half of my blood and it was quite scary for a little while. All sorted now though, having a blood transfusion while little bub is sleeping Grin x

I just read the op and came to say try some paracetamol. With both mine I was 1-2cm and contracting took some paracetamol and within a short space of time waters broke and ready to go.

But I see I was too late...!!!

Congratulations!!!! Xxx
