I'm 39 + 1 and mine started to go at 6 am this morning. Lots now, lovely and clear. But no contractions as yet! Did similar happen to anyone else? My midwife (home birth) says just to chill but that is easier said than done!!!

Yes my waters broke in one big gush, contractions started about half an hour later and were strong and close together straight away.

My waters broke a good few hours before contractions started. It’s true what they say, just stay calm and try to get some rest. Once they start it’s incredibly knackering!
It was very considerate of your wee bairn to wait until the morning. Mine broke 9pm and contractions at midnight meaning pushing a wee bugger out with sod all sleep.
Good luck and enjoy it! It’s really not as bad as you’d imagine! flowers

This happened with both of mine. Waters breaking were the first sign of labour.
With the first contractions started a few hours later and stayed home for another 12 hours before going to hospital.
Second the contractions literally started as soon as my waters broke and I went straight to hospital.
Good luck!

My waters went before contractions with DC2, contractions started an hour later, DC was born 2.5h(ISH) hours after contractions started. Good luck!

Yep mine went like in the movies! At home luckily, and at term.

My contractions never started though, I spent 24 hours waiting then went in for an induction.

Yes, in 3 out of 4 deliveries.
It was very exciting, knowing baby was definitely coming but not being in pain.

Mine went at 37 weeks with both dc.

Dc1. Waters. 30 mins later contractions started. Dc born 2 hours after that.

Dc2. Waters. 10 mins later contractions started. Dc1 born 15 mins after that.

Hope it all goes well and you are soon cuddled up with your new born.

Mine did with #3. Contractions started about an hour later, slow and steady. #3 arrived an hour or so after that. Good luck!

Mine went before, contractions started within an hour. Good luck!

My waters broke with a massive gush in the middle of the night, unfortunately for me my contractions never came. I had to go into hospital to be induced.

Dc3+4 my waters also went first but contractions came a few hours later.

I know it’s hard but try to relax and remember that no matter what your baby will be here soon.

My mums went in a fast food restaurant then came the contractions a while afterwards grin

Yes. I started to have minor period pain throughout the morning and had ds2 that evening.

Watch telly, read a book, bake, ANYTHING that makes you feel good.

I also had a home birth. Good luck

Make sure you give the delivery suite a ring if you haven’t already. Mine went but no contractions and they asked me to come in for monitoring after a few hours. I was allowed home to monitor my temp myself and wait for them to start and was induced 24hrs later from when my waters went.

Good luck!

Yes my waters broke with no other sign was going to go into labour.
I went for a walk and contractions started less than an hour later... I delivered less than 5 hours after waters broke...

Millettmum Sat 23-May-20 08:42:03

Some of mine went when I was in bed, felt like I had peed myself. Went back to sleep, spoke to midwife in the morning who checked me out but nothing happened so the next day I was induced.

AvacArdo Sat 23-May-20 08:42:19

Waters broke, contractions started 24 hours later.

TheBabyAteMyBrain Sat 23-May-20 08:43:33

Waters broke at 10am in a spectacular pop and gush and contractions started at 10pm with ds1. He was born 11am the next day.

IWouldLikeToKnow Sat 23-May-20 08:43:55

My waters broke about 20 hrs before contractions started. A dramatic gush when I got up during the night to use the bathroom. I went into the hospital about 4hrs after they broke as they wanted to check them. They wanted me to stay in so spent the day there with nothing happening until about 10pm when the contractions started - 3-5 mins apart. Baby came about 16hrs later.

Best of luck x

Mine went and labour didn't start until about 40 hours later.

ElectricTonight Sat 23-May-20 08:45:08

Yes same happened for me, have you contacted your midwife? If things don't progress in 24hours Youl need to be induced. Good luck OP thanks

ElectricTonight Sat 23-May-20 08:46:05

And have antibiotics if I'm remembering correctly it was 7 years ago now!

Shelby30 Sat 23-May-20 08:51:04

My sisters waters broke and she didn't go in to labour. She had to induced 2 days later.

My waters broke and contractions started about 15mins later.

Hope it goes well x

TooGood2BeTrue Sat 23-May-20 08:53:36

This happened to me. The midwife was adamant that they would induce me if my labour didn't start within 12h. Go for a walk and stay active; hopefully that will bring on the contractions as it did with me. Good luck!

TheBabyAteMyBrain Sat 23-May-20 08:54:12

Just to say they will suggest induction after 24 hours due to infection risk, but it is up to you if it's what you want. With ds2 I denied any checks which could introduce infection, monitored temperature and was able to have my home birth. I was given antibiotics as I had gone over the 24 hours.
