Where did my waters go?

My DC is 7 now so it’s not a recent thing but I have been wondering on and off since she was born where the waters went and if we were incredibly lucky that she was ok.

She was 14 days overdue and I was induced, they tried breaking my waters and that part went on forever with the big knitting needle thing but nothing ever came out and no waters broke during the birth. She was born with tonnes of scratches on her head that took almost a year to heal and I believe it’s from the attempts to break my non existent waters.

I’ve had another child since and the waters breaking was very film-esque; flooded the bed onto the floor with a sploosh so I know I didn’t miss it with my first child.

Where did the waters go???! Isn’t it dangerous to leave a baby after the waters have broken? Don’t know how long she was left for as i would certainly have remembered if I’d have thought oh that’s a lot of wee or oh I’m quite wet today but nothing.

Both times I didn’t have any kind of gush of waters like I imagined so I can only assume they just trickled away somehow?
Poor DS had scratches on his head too from them trying to break my non existent waters- but not as badly as your DD

That is crazy though! There’s so much water, where does it go?! Surely if it was trickling our gradually you’d notice you need pads etc or you’d wake up with a wet feeling. I’m still mystified.
High five to you hopping and any other woman who’s had to endure the midwives attempting to break the waters. Dreadful experience.

I had exactly the same experience as you with my second child.

First child obvious gush when waters broke during labour.

Second child 11 days late, I was induced. Went to break waters and none there!

Felt I wasn't believed when I said I had no recollection of them breaking.

My dd at 18 still has a scar on her scalp from the monitor that they attached to measure her heart rate

With my second, the waters were all behind her, so she came out first and then the waters followed. I only know this because the midwife told me and I didn't really feel them, maybe similar happened to you?

My my first, I leaked for a few days (front waters?) and gushed the rest over the bathroom floor in hospital.

With my second, I had an upset stomach the day before, and no waters at all it seemed. The midwife said I might’ve lost them down the toilet...

For both mine the "hind" waters didn't go away until I was pushing them out. Though, the fore waters did come out with a significant enough gush that I would have happily accepted that was all of it at the time until told otherwise. Perhaps your waters were all behind the baby (baby's head acting as a very tight plug?) until they came out with everything else at birth??
