Apologies if its been done before but a search turned up not a lot!

Am having this done on weds at 41 weeks.

Would also be interested to know if it works better with second or subsequent children!

TIA.

I had one at 41 weeks (first baby) and it worked (well with a bit of help from having sex ). Waters broke at 11pm at night (had sweep at about 10am).

nope, neither time for me, sorry !!

but mine were at 39 and 40 weeks so, should not have really expected them to.

at 41 weeks, it might help though

lots of sex and nipple stim could help too

did you go over with your other babies?

at 41 weeks, no

at 42 weeks, no .... although the midwife did tell me not to throw away the car park ticket, as she reckoned I'd be back within hours ...

ds was finally born after a 4 day induction (yes you read right), ending in an EmCS

now at 38 weeks with no. 2 ... will probably try sweeps again, just for form's sak!

Trying to build myself up to the sex part - twice before no joy!

I have a DS and he was born at 37+6. Didn't expect to still be here now, which of course is the worst thing you can do isn't it?! I'm always telling everyone not to expect baby early!!!

Didn't have one with DS, who was born at 38+3.

Had one with DD at 40+3. She was born at 40+4 .

Oh bless you ejt - it sounds as though that baby didn't want to come out! I hope you have a better time this time around.

worked for me with second baby at 40+3.
Had sweep on Tuesday afternooon and DS2 popped out on Weds evening after 2 hour labour

No. Actually it stopped the pre-labour contractions in my case for a few hours. (I had one at 41+1.)

That's not to say I wouldn't try it though (didn't do any harm to have a go as I had to have waters broken and then a drip in the end so DD obviously wasn't going to turn up easily).

At 41 weeks exactly I wasn't ready for a sweep. At 42 weeks exactly I still wasn't ready for one. At 42+4 I was ready and had a sweep - I started getting contractions straight away. DS was born 2 days later.

In all honesty I wouldn't bother next time. They say that a sweep only works if you would have gone into labour within 24 hours anyway. In my case I wonder whether the sweep was the cause of the ridiculous pre-labour which was too painful for me to rest of sleep, but wasn't dialting me. I was shattered before I was even in active labour.

So not brilliant results mostly then. Ho hum.

Had sweep at 8 days over... had baby (2nd) 2 days later, so difficult to tell if it was the sweep or labour happening naturally anyway... but didn't need any other form of intervention. If I found myself in the same position again would def have a sweep

Report
mixedmama · 18/09/2007 08:34

Yes it did, but I was already in labour and 2cm dilated so it just sped things up.

I think the general consensus is that if the baby is not ready then it will not work.

Sorry didnt read the whole thing so sorry if i am just repaeating.

I had 4. The first one she couldn't reach my cervix. The second one, she nearly could. The third one was done by a Doctor and I think that started things off. The fourth one was done whilst I was in pre labour to get things moving quicker. I am not convinced by them tbh!

FlossALump · 18/09/2007 11:07

So does your cervix kind of move down the closer you get to labour then? can't feel mine!
