Irritation passing urine after csection

I had a planned section 4 days, it went well and I was discharged the next day.

I've been resting a lot and just letting my body recover and the pain is very manageable now.

The only issue I'm having is when passing urine. I'm able to pass lots of it so that's not a problem, and I know when I have to go so I have sensation. It's when my bladder gets too full and I have to go, there's discomfort in my urethra while it's coming out. It's like a painful pressure feeling, hard to describe.

Is this normal? Will it heal with time? I'm guessing it's from the catheter so hoping it will go away soon!

I had similar OP. Didn’t last too long for me. Do ask the midwife though

Yes I had this! I can't remember how long it took to go away, but it definitely did! I think it's just the irritation from the catheter, as you said. Congrats on your newborn! 🤗

I had a catheter after, in hosp. Imagine this is standard. That can cause little scratches or whatever and take a little while to heal.

Keep an eye on it if it doesn't better better in a while or other symptoms of infection.

Oh I had this! It never got bad, just uncomfortable and passed after a week or so. Congratulations!

Could be a uti also. If pain/discomfort gets worse bring a sample to gp.

Thanks everyone, I'm keeping an eye on my temperature just in case it might be a UTI, all other symptoms of UTIs are kinda standard post csection symptoms too!

It's good to know that it might just be from the catheter, I keep reading that all post catheter issues should be resolved after 48 hours but that doesn't seem the case with me

I had this for a few weeks I think. It came and went. Good sign that you know when you need to go!

Congratulations on the new arrival.

Hi op, I had a catheter fitted during childbirth and it did turn into a uti, I found i just wasn't improving roughly 5/6 days post birth, so went to the doctors the next day it was confirmed. Might be different with a cs but hopefully you'll see an improvement soon 🤞

Yep.. I got induced 22 week ago so had to have catheter and I was the same pain in the urethra and when I was telling people I said it’s had to explain got to the point where I thought the tube had cut me in the way in but it’s easing off now (5month later) also it gave me a bad UTI that kept coming back, so get ur urine checked and drink lots of water it helps get it better quicker x

The midwife will be visiting on the 2nd so I'll definitely be mentioning it to her then. I'm not sure why they don't warn you about the high likelihood of UTI after catheter as it seems so common!
