Waters breaking

Just wondered if anyone would like to share their story of when/where their waters broke naturally, not by anyone in the hospital!

I keep going between worrying it'll happen whilst I'm out and about (alone!) to not worrying as it's "one of those things".

I'm sure there's some funny stories out there if anyone would like to share Smile

Mine never did- well, fourth time I actually can’t remember when they went. Probably ruptured for me in labour I think

But when dd had my grandson she popped herself- less than a week post dates. She said she felt really chilled and blissed out that evening- had a bath, went to bed, woke up and felt a bit odd. Got out of bed and her waters trickled onto the floor... baby born that night before midnight.

Literally moments before birth in the final pushing stage. It was quite a lot of liquid and thus very dramatic but not unexpected at all.

Grin at home in the middle of the night.... I kept getting up thinking I needed a poo, was pushing and nothing. Was on my way back to bed and thought I'd wet myself 😂 it was just a small bit. But it kept coming every few seconds..... Then it dawned on me... 2 hours later DD was born 😂

With dc1 I got up to use the toilet at around 4 am and just as I got back into bed they broke. It was 4 days before my due date.

My labour didnt progress & I was induced 24 hours later.

With dc2 I was 10 days overdue and I was lying in bed and they broke. There was menconium in them and again I was put on drip as soon as I got to hospital.

I was induced with dc 3 and the doctor broke them.

I was surprised that they keep flowing as I thought there would be one gush and that would be the end of it!

5am felt the urgent need to get to the bathroom (downstairs from our bedroom) got in and the was a huge gush/tidal wave
Unfortunately they did have meconium in so had to go to the big hospital for monitoring instead of the midwife led unit

6 weeks before my due date I went for a yummy burger and chips in town after work with friends. Walking through the very busy touristy city centre afterwards my waters broke with an almighty gush outside yo sushi. It was literally like how it happens on tv/films! Baby born 24 hours later in dramatic fashion. Still an impatient so and so now. I left a review on the burger restaurant Facebook page saying their burger was so good it caused me to go into labour. Thought I'd get a freebie at least but still waiting Grin

First time, middle of the night, I was half asleep in bed and felt a ‘pop’, just made it to the bathroom in time. Second time, I was sitting on the sofa. I moved slightly and felt a ‘pop’. Sofa never recovered!

2 weeks before my due date. I felt a bit tired so went to bed for a rest, I dozed off and when I woke up i needed the loo but my knickers were wet so I thought I'd wet myself. Went to the loo and there was a small trickle. It took me half an hour at least to convince myself it might be my waters. There was no 'gush' for me so very unlike in the movies x

2am, little trickle as I rolled over. Went to the toilet and happened again as I got back to bed. Thought that was it as the midwife confirmed waters had gone so 14 hours later when they exploded over the living room floor I was quite surprised. We were about to leave to go to the hospital so that was delayed whilst I tried to clean myself up during contractions. Baby born 5 hours after waters fully went.

@piercedmyfootonaspike damn it! If ever there's a plug for a free burger that should be it! 🤣

@Gluetap this is also a huge worry! What if it's the sofa/the car/in bed. I may start walking around wrapped in a plastic sheet as protection!

@MissSmith80 again, I'm anxious as to whether I'll know if it's happened or have I just peed 🙈

They went in the birthing pool when I was fully dilated. Audible "pop" and the pool suddenly had tiny pieces of the membrane in it. No idea on amount of liquid, as I was already up to my tits in water, obvs Grin baby out about 2hrs later.

Fairly uncommon for them to go before labour - more often they go well into the process.

My contractions had started earlier in the day. I spent the day on my birthing ball, in the bath, pottering about the flat with DP etc whilst the contractions ramped up. After a few hrs I lay down on the sofa to rest for a moment and felt a weird shift. Immediately I stood up and there was an almighty gush, like in the films, and my waters broke all over the living room floor. My contractions got very strong after that and a few hrs later DS1 was born.

I'm 39+4 now with DS2 and hoping for a similar birth tbh as it was a relatively good experience last time!

Just put my pjs on and sat bouncing on birthing ball my neighbour had lent me and thought I had wet myself!
Went to hospital where they confirmed it was my waters, contractions started 3 hours later, DD was born 9 hours after that.
With my first my waters didn’t go until late stages of labour so I was really surprised when my waters went first !

I was told that popping hollywood fashion was quite unlikely (10% or so) but my very sensible husband suggested and bought an absorbent sheet that we started using at 36 weeks. 5 days later my water broke at 5am, woke me up. felt an initial trickle that woke me up, grabbed my husband and kind of wrapped me up in the sheet and waddled to the shower where it all just gushed out. I think it is usual to get at least some warning before the tidal wave hits even if it is a sudden thing.

Should have seen my face when the midwife asked my if i was sure it was my waters!!! wtf else would have it been?

Woke up one morning at 7am, sat up and felt a trickle. Then I stood up and just knew it was my waters due to the volume and inability to stop it. Also a sweet sort of smell. Travel to hospital sitting on bin liners. Baby arrived 6 hours later ☺️

Nic165 · 31/10/2019 20:56

Also no popping noise or feeling that they had gone until I sat up out of bed

Woke up in the morning and thought I'd wet myself a little bit during the night, didn't think anymore of it. Went downstairs and emptied the tumble dryer and there was another trickle so I called the midwife. Ds was born early the following morning!

16 hour labour and mine went naturally in the final hour. It was as like a big water balloon had been chucked on the floor!

Mine went in the birthing pool just before I pushed... the sac was actually bulging out of me so I got feel it before they broke. Felt like a water balloon Grin

Woke up in bed and my pyjamas felt a bit damp, did what dr Google told me to do, put a pad on and lay back down for half an hour. Stood up after and they gushed EVERYWHERE.

I was in hospital for induction - they’d given me the pessary but then no beds in delivery suite so everything had ground to a halt - id felt loads of pressure down below for hours, felt like I needed the loo and my waters went like a tidal wave - several large gushes. My other half is still convinced I helped them along a bit as i was getting sick of waiting for them to move me to delivery suite!

36+4 went to the loo at 2am and heard an audible ‘pop’ when I went back to my bedroom an obvious (fairly small) puddle was accumulating on the floor. Waters continued to go...and go...and go with loads flooding out all morning. Contractions naturally started at 8am, DD born at midnight. It was exciting!

I had an elcs so mine never went. Dsis was convinced hers had gone when she he had just started contracting. When she got to the hospital they told her they were intact, she'd just wet herself big timeShockBlushGrin
