ELCS on Weds, just starting to hit me

Due to have my second baby on Wednesday morning at 38+4. Already have a 3yo boy. How can I get myself ready? I had a failed induction which led to EMCS with my first and had miscarriages and a scary operation to fix an ectopic between then and now so I'm terrified.
Does anybody have any tips for having second baby, having EMCS, anxiety etc? It's all hitting me that I'm going to be having a baby on Wednesday and it's very surreal.

Hey I'm also due to have baby number 2 tomorrow via an elcs, I'll be 39+2. I haven't got any advice but wanted to share the nerves! I'm going to take lots of things to keep me occupied (kindle, mindfulness colouring book) and to keep my mind off things as it'll be a bit of a waiting game, depending on other priorities/ emergencies I might have to wait a while! Good luck!

Hi @Littleguggi
It's so weird knowing that we'll be holding our babies really soon, I suppose we're lucky in that respect but I'm getting so worked up! What made you decide to go for an elective this time?

I had a difficult labour last time, ended up with a an episiotomy, kiwi delivery and 3rd degree tear. Then had to go into theatre to have my placenta removed manually. Dr's kinda recommended an elcs!

I know it's such a weird feeling, I don't know what to do with myself today! It's the last time I'll have the day to myself for a very long time!

How did you find recovering from the emcs last time?

I found my ELCS easier to recover from than EMCS - it was much calmer too. It's noisy so take earplugs I forgot mine and got no sleep at all so went home after 24 hours. Magazines and kindle as there may be waiting around depending on where you are on the list. Snacks as hospital food may not be great

Oh and to answer your question @Littleguggi, recovery wasn't too bad. My wound healed quickly and really well and I had no injuries etc. I'm just terrified of having the spinal, it's so unpleasant

Your last birth sounds traumatic, you poor thing! Hopefully we get the nice calm births that the Doctors promise for an ELCS

If you tell them you’re anxious when you arrive in the morning, they can prep some calming stuff to give you. I’m sure it was something like Valium they gave me. They also put us first on list do no time to get worked up. We we were in and out of theatre by 1030am!

My elcs was SO different to emcs. I remember surgeon and others discussing their weekend as they stitched!

Ahh amazing, congratulations!! Mine went well too, not quite the 'magical' experience that some described! Waiting for my spinal to wear off xx
