Childbirth

First thoughts after childbirth?

I'm curious about what went through people's minds when they gave birth/had a c-section, particularly with your first children.

For me, I remember being in excruciating pain as the baby's head came out, the midwife said "one more push", and the shoulders came out, and they said "You have a son!", popped him on my chest, and I looked into his eyes (wide open) and instantly the pain of birth was forgotten, I was just amazed at finally meeting this little creature that was from me,
I hardly noticed the team of people stitching me up, didn't notice I was haemorrhaging, I was just lost in his eyes.

Then that night as he truly woke up he began to cluster feed and cry a lot, and I remember thinking "Is this real? Am I really a parent now? Are his real parents going to come along any minute now and thank me for looking after him?"
I didn't really feel like a mum. Now I have a 2 month old and I've settled into the role much better.
But I still keep looking at his head and thinking "Golly, I pushed that melon out of me."

I just wanted coffee.

@baronessbomburst
Yes about an hour later I was famished and all I wanted was chicken nuggets, but had to settle for a ham & cheese sandwich from the hospital fridge.

With Dd1 I was in total shock. I can remember my mum telling me it's a girl. My whole body was shaking.

With dd2 I was in in a very bad place mentally I had told the midwife I didn't want to hold the baby Sad.
DH told me it was a girl. I nearly knocked the midwife on her arse to get to dd. All I can remember is dd had a full head of hair. I couldn't take my eyes off her. I cried for over an hour 😂😂

Can you prove that's mine?

Had a general anaesthetic and I wanted some proof this child in the cot next to me was actually mine

First time - 'Thank God he's out!'

Second time (last Tues) 'I will never be pregnant again 🎉🎉🎉'!

I am never. ever. doing THAT again!

And I haven't

Midwife said "oh you say that now, but you'll forget all of this very quickly, and you'll do it again"

No. No, I won't

@FairyMoppings

I said to my husband when I was in labour with DD1 “you’re never coming near me again.” Midwife replied “whatever, I’ll be back here next year delivering your next baby”

She wasn’t, but her colleague was Blush

Midwife put a towel on my stomach and told me that’s where baby would go.
I looked at DH in surprise and announced “We are having a baby”
By the time DD came out, I’d got used to the idea Grin

DD1 - couldn't have given less of a shit. High on drugs, hemmoraging and exhausted. Thought I was dying. Remember trying to keep myself awake or I would die.

Ds1 - ah that was easy!

The relief from the pain was instant when she popped out.

Then when she was popped on my chest (not crying, just looking very confused) I was wondering how she had so much hair and why did she look like my BIL?

After they stitched me I passed her back to DH and announced I needed a shower, bounced up and had the most well deserved wash of my life.

I thought I was the chicken in a katsu curry, the bed was rice and I was the panko fried chicken breast and the blanket on top of me was the katsu sauce.

I surprisingly remember it very vividly!

I remember having a haemorrhage they couldn’t stop but it was really slow too and I remember being really mad, thinking I’ll be fuming if I bleed to death slowly over hours and thet don’t stop it Grin
Once they managed to stop it I just wanted a brew tbh

Can I have my toast now?
Best bit of toast I’ve ever had.

Report
KimchiLaLa · 10/02/2019 21:24

I was hungry. I remember thinking the toast they gave me was the best meal ever.

I didn't feel a sudden rush of love for my baby but my God did that come later. I'm obsessed with her now.

Remember thinking how tired I was, but was running on adrenaline so didn't feel sleepy.

Ouch

Then some more ouch with stitches

Then another ouch when I did a wee

That was the general gist.

"HOLY FUCK IT'S ACTUALLY A REAL LIFE TINY HUMAN BEING!!!" In my head. I don't think I actually said anything for a long time as I was exhausted and lost 1.5L of blood.

Planned CS, which is what I wanted. Thoughts (I think!) were:

  • This is going how I wanted.
  • Why are they taking three days to clean him up and give him to me? (In reality it was about a minute!)

I was thinking "why isn't he crying". Truly terrifying. Never did hear him cry as he was taken off to neonatal before I'd seen him. All after 40 hour induced labour and EMCS.
So so lucky to have a perfect little boy after it all but it's absolutely affected my desire to have another.
