Childbirth

First-timer. Should I be getting a bloody show for several days?

I am 39+2 (or 4) and have been having bloody shows for the last 3 days. I am certain this is the mucus plug because of the consistency and I had quite a bit of bleeding earlier on in my pregnancy - this is very different (and definitely mucusy (sp?). I have had loads of bh and backache on and off for days too, as well as some period type pains.

I was just wondering if it is normal to get this over several days, and it it is likely to just carry on until I give birth? And I dont suppose anyone has a crystal ball and can tell me when I am going to go into labour properly?

Thanks for any info/advice you can give.

Sounds to me like your mucous plug is coming away slowly. It can come away all at once or it can take days, such is the nature of human bodies and everyone being different.

I think your labour may well be here soon and you will definitley have your baby sometime in the next 2.5 weeks!

Have a look here: Early labour mistakes

and here for some interesting info.

stay strong!

Thanks Klaw.

Seems like there is masses of it! I (naively) thought that it would all come away in one lump and would be about a teaspoons worth. Seems like I must have have a couple of tablespoons already!

The links are really useful. thanks

I had a big lump come away on the Monday, and finally went into labour on the Sunday...bits coming away all week, so yes can go on for a while.

Good luck, hope it all kicks off soon for you.

Thanks Pucca. Reassuring to know can happen over a few days.

If I am up to a live labour thread when it comes to it, I'll let you know! MN has certainly helped me pass the time quickly since finishing work, so i guess the same will happen in labour

Just a quick update for anyone interested.

Well looks like my lo is well on his/her way. Hind waters went 4.30am yesterday and main (fore?) waters at 7:45pm. Had niggles on and off all day. MW came out at 8:45 as I was a little concerned about the amount of blood in waters, but all ok and just show. As my contractions hadn't really kicked off she did a sweep and I was already 2 cm dilated. Advised to go for a walk and then get some sleep while I can. contractions really kicked off while out walking (every couple of mins), but most weren't too strong. Only a couple were strong enough for me to be unable to talk through them. I can't sleep now, and they are getting stronger again, so bouncing on my ball at comp! The contractions have slowed down again now so I might try walking around a bit again! I've sent DH back to bed as at least one of us should be getting some sleep.

All done and dusted! Evelyn Grace joined us at 5:12pm after on/off contractions until 12pm. At 12pm they kicked back in at 3-4 mins apart then by 2pm they were on top of each other. Managed with just a bit of gas & air, TENS and birth pool (eventually when dh finished filling it for final stages of pushing).
Thanks for all your encouragement. x

IM 37+1 weeks pregnant. I got a bloody show yesterday, explained to triage what it was and they said I am having a bloody show! I had contractions yesterday, then last night nothing!! Ok this morning...had a hot bath, now I’ve got blood/brown stuff again! Also got period pains, need to sit down as walking around isn’t helping! ANY ADVICE???? Is my baby coming??
