Been having what I thought was a show for a couple of days, and today it was pink and definitely a show. Woke up feeling a bit weird, chilly and shaky, and crampy and nauseous.

Think I've been having contractions but not rally been timing them as wasn't sure, but going to start now. Am 40+2, have an appointment with MW at 2.30 but wondering if I will make it!

EffiePerine · 20/06/2007 11:05

How exciting!

Effie, that was going to be my next question! It won't interfere with the timing?

OOH, feel all nostalgic and broody now!

Good luck, relax and enjoy!

Switch on tens, I didn't have one with DS1 but found life soo much easier with DS2. I think it actually helped me time contractions.

ohh how exciting!
Timing??
And never used a Tens so don't know if it helps.

Bumper - the earlier you get ur TENS on the better impact it will have. Have you been timing yet - did you call DH?

IdrisTheDragon · 20/06/2007 11:11

Ooh - hope this is it .

EffiePerine · 20/06/2007 11:11

Nope, you'll still feel them (sorry!) but it will help as they get stronger. In fact, did all my labour using tens - have to say it got a loss less effective when I was pushing

so no. 2 recommendation is to freeze on to the gas and air when you get to that stage!

Report
EffiePerine · 20/06/2007 11:12

Oh and it means you can get used to using it, inc the boost function, for when you really need it. Can't recommend them enough

Go Bumper Go!!! Actually carry on as normal just now, ignore them while you can.

Early labour mistakes

When you cannot talk during the contractions then it's time to go to hospital. I'd suggest staying at home as long as you dare. Listen to your instincts. Keep warm, active but don't over do it, plenty fluids & pee regular!

get DH to help with putting the pads on - tricky to do by yourself (as you may have just found)
Report
bumperlicious · 20/06/2007 11:15

F*cking tens machine! Difficult to get on by yourself. So do I just keep it on all the time now and use the burst bit when I get a contraction?

sorry should have mentioned that earlier...

Yes bumper cant recommend G & A enuff!! Helps with pain and helps you focus & breat as they get stronger. WHen they get stronger you tend to hold your breath - like you would when you stub ur toe but for longer - you have to breathe to get the gas in you so you stay focused - its ace.

TENS - turn dial so that you can just barely feel tingle, when contx get stronger so that you can't feel tingle anymore then turn up a tad. And so on! If the tingle is annoying then it's on too high.

Good luck Bumper! Have you called DH yet? How far apart are contractions?

fannyannie · 20/06/2007 11:17

I have to smile at the "can't talk through contractions" - I was talking - ok it was complete gibberish and sometimes verging on shouting LOL - all the way through most of mine right up to, and including, pushing .

DH is on his way. Works about 45 mins away. Don't know whether to call my mum or not. She is coming up, and is on the alert at the moment, but I told her to wait until I see the midwife in a couple of hours. She lives 2 hours away and don't want to call her for nothing.

ooooooooooooooooooohhhhh!!

stick the tens on , if you want to use it for pain relief, start now, and then you keep cranking it up as it gets more intense....

Report
mumof4aceboys · 20/06/2007 11:17

Yes - keep tens on now and press boost when you get a contraction. How far apart are they and for how long?

Report
Klaw · 20/06/2007 11:17

If you hold off the G&A until as late as possible and past 5cms then you are less likely to feel sick and drunk on it.
