Undecided about sweep

Hi!
I’m 40 weeks today and have a midwife appt on Thurs when I’ll be 40+2 I know she might offer to do a sweep at that point but I’m really unsure whether to have one or not. I haven’t had any early labour signs whatsoever, definitely feel like I’m still quite a way off and I’ve heard a sweep can be very painful if things aren’t already on their way anyway? Thinking about maybe leaving it until the week after but then again I’m so uncomfortable and so ready to meet my baby I want to do anything to get her here quicker!! Any experiences/advice would be helpful. Thanks!

I was offered a sweep at 40+1, I declined and baby came naturally (and suddenly!) at 41 weeks exactly. I had absolutely no signs of labour beforehand but I wanted to trust my body & baby as much as possible and I'm glad I did!Smile Either way, good luck with everything. Thanks

I had sweeps and they didn’t hurt at all, I was already 2cm when I had the first but just to reassure if you do decide to have one that they can be fine! Good luck!

I had sweeps with both mine and they didn’t hurt. They didn’t work either and I had to be induced both times. X

I turned down my sweep at 40+2 just was not in the form that particular day for it. By 40+5 I was with midwife again and decided I wanted one! Contractions started 24hrs later.

Thanks all, I didn’t have one in the end. I can go to my local birth centre over the weekend for 1 though if I change my mind & im back with the midwife next week when I’ll be 40+9 so I’ll have 1 then assuming no sign of baby by then!
