Failed sweep?

Has anyone had a failed sweep and went on to labour soon after? Yesterday I went to have a sweep at 38 +3 my baby is large so to avoid a c section I agreed to a sweep early to try and bring on labour. However she said my cervix is posterior and only 1cm dilated and it was so sore she had to stop. She said she can’t see me going into labour anytime soon and I will more than likely see my c section date. She’s offered me one for next week at 39 +3 but I refused as I have a c section booked for 40 weeks as my baby is on the 95th percentile. Has anyone gone on to labour soon after a failed sweep?

Sweeps are successful for many people. Unfortunately I'm not one of them.

With DS1 I had 5 sweeps, between 40 and 42 weeks.
With DS2 I had 7 sweeps from 38 onwards. I was induced at 42 weeks both times.

Don't be disheartened though, it's worth having more if the chance is there!

I'm in the same boat...I had a failed sweep today... booked in for induction on Sunday now rather than a second sweep, (but I am 41 weeks tomorrow) baby was nearly 8lbs at 37 weeks and I'm petrified right now.. so you're not alone xx

Sweeps are only helpful if you're within about 2 days of going into labour anyway. They are not really helpful.

Lots of walks are helpful as that helps press baby's head onto your cervix which helps dilate it. However if you lay down that can then take baby's head off of the cervix.

Failed sweep Monday, although lost mucous plug, another sweep Thursday, so far nothing, mw said 1cm cervix high and soft. 40 weeks today, desperate to go into labour already!

When you say failed do you mean because she had to stop? It's a good thing/sign that you're 1cm dilated - your body is clearly preparing for birth! I was 1cm at my sweep on a Monday and went into labour that night (verrrrry slow labour, baby born on the Saturday but it wasn't as bad as that sounds at all!)

She couldn’t reach my cervix properly and said the baby wasn’t ready to come yet so no point in trying at that time (the baby wasn’t engaged and in a ROA position). I will be 39 weeks tomorrow and have finally got my head round and accepted I will be having a c section next Monday so hopefully baby doesn’t try to make an appearance before then.
