Wondering if anybody experienced something similar. My bleeding started out normal after giving birth to my baby, heavy and red and then slowly becoming less heavy and turning a yellow pale colour. For the past couple of days he blood has turnt bright red again with some small clots, not a huge amount that it's soaking pads but a period amount.

I am BF and have been fairly active these past couple of days so not sure if that makes a difference.

Healh visitor comes tomorrow so I will mention it to her also.

It's probably fine, but to be honest I'd phone your out of hours doctor/111 for confirmation that it's fine tonight.
I think anything of concern in the first few weeks should be checked out, just in case.

(not a medical professional btw, just of the opinion it's good to get these things checked out)

Hope all is well thought and you're enjoying your new baby!

I think this is normal - mine went on for a few weeks and always ramped up when I had been more active. I honestly don’t think you can rest too much in the first few weeks after having a baby.

Update: I rang the midwife in the end and she said it could be a period (I'm exclusively breastfeeding so I was surprised at this) or it could just be from being active. I hope it's still just post birth bleeding and that for some 'normal' reason it just went back to being red. Still bleeding red almost a week later so who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️ As long as I don't have any huge clots, fill a pad in less than an hour or get a high temp/illness/signs of infection midwife said it doesn't sound concerning.

Mine also came and went for a while. I would be convinced it was almost over and then nope. Definitely wasn't my period as they only came back at 8months.

It can be a sign of an infection or some left over product. This happened to me. Bleeding tapered off and then returned as red. Called and was given same advice you were about it being a period. It remained red and heavy for a week then got significantly worse. Went to A&E when I began getting dizzy. Nobody checked me down there, just my stats and I seemed well. Anyway, I collapsed on the way out of A&e, was rushed to another hospital and needed several blood transfusions. Clots were forming on my cervix or something and I think my body was trying to expel the product (left over placenta) by bleeding more.

If it gets more intense you should push for a scan or to see the gyne team. It is very unlikely to be your period given you are BF and the time scales. If you begin to feel dizzy at any point, go to hospital. Let your partner know, because if you are hemeraging you might get bad pretty fast and he needs to know what's been going on.

Don't leave it late like me, it all got rather dramatic! 😜 keep a close eye on it.

Mine all lasted for at least 6 weeks after birth. Some days heavier, some light. More after being active definitely.

Please get checked. My sister had retained placenta at 6 weeks and had to have a big dose of antibiotics and then an operation to remove it. It was scary as my aunt died of the same thing 25 years earlier when she got sepsis.

I came on here to post something similar. I'm 16 days PP and lochia keeps coming and going. It's not heavy at all, just red, but only if I've been slightly more active (30 min to 1hr slow walk). Annoying as I REALLY want to get out and walk more but I'm trying very hard to just sit on my arse all day and bf whilst DH does literally everything else. Hoping it will pass soon.
