2nd section, in agony in wound area

Not sure If this is normal or not but here goes. Had an emergency CS with dc2, planned with dc3 which was on Friday gone. Came home Sunday lunchtime, felt ok but did miss the oramorph!

Since Sunday I have felt progressively worse and in more pain, specifically at the wound site. Previous section was a bit stressful so I've blocked out the recovery and how I felt etc. I'm only 5 days post section but taking the maximum pain relief that I can, paracetamol and ibuprofen, is only taking the edge off. I struggle to roll over and get out of bed. Am ebf, no problems. Is this normal pain levels or do a need to flag. My wound site is constantly throbbing and takes me a few moments to straighten up. Can't take codeine as bf-ing.

Thanks for listening!

I would get checked out. It's normal to feel discomfort when rolling over etc but constant throbbing doesn't sound good. How does it look? Is it hot/red/oozing?

I would get it checked as soon as possible incase of infection. Flowers

Definitely get it checked out. I had diclofenic (sp) after both mine. Can't imagine paracetamol being enough pain relief in the first few weeks.

When I showered I used to dab tissue onto the cut to dry it and it was always clean, is yours?

Thanks for replies. Yes it's clean and have been dabbing in shower and also allowing air time to it to dry. Doesn't look red or angry. Midwife coming today for day 5 checks so will mention to her. I have a fairly high pain threshold but this has had me in tears.

Hello. I'm 4 weeks posts section. For the first week I had some serious wound pain! It would make me scream! Turned out it was normal, some get nerve pain where the nerves have been cut and trying to knit back together. It felt like my wound was opening up at times and a bit like an electric hot shock. But it's best to go get it checked out.

I also found ibuprofen helped the most, but only when the pain lessened!

I've had 3 sections. I would phone the hospital for advice if you're concerned. At 5 days post-partum that's probably normal if you're no longer taking oramorph. I agree with PP about the Ibuprofen. Only oramorph worked for me in the early days but after that Ibuprofen was the best (alternating with paracetamol). You should start feeling less pain soon.

Thanks all. Was prescribed diclofenac yesterday by GP over the phone so that has helped today. Midwife came today for baby's day 5 check up and she had a look... she took a swab and as that takes 5 days for results to come in, she called the GP surgery and got me an appointment today to get some antibiotics started, then if I need different antibiotics then they can be prescribed after the results are back.

My gut feeling was that it didn't feel right, she also thought there might be a haematoma there, coming back on Friday to check on me ( and also baby's v.mild jaundice). Am so lucky to have fab care in the local NHS.
