Should I take my DSLR camera to my labour?

I’m not sure whether I’m having an induced VBAC or an ELCS but either way, I’m hoping to get some more photos of baby after he has been born than I did with DD.

Last time I took my iPhone and compact camera - a Canon, so v good! - but I would love to get some really good photos of my newborn with my DSLR.

Am I being unrealistic in thinking it is a good thing to plan for and take with me? I know all births are pretty unpredictable and I don’t think it is that sensible to take such valuable possessions with me, but I’m really keen to get some good photos rather than the grainy ones you can just take on a phone.

Has anyone else planned on doing this/ever done this? Obviously if I have a c-section, I won’t be able to move around much with a camera anyway...

Presumably your birth partner can look after it for you, and if it's insured then why not?

There was a thread recently about things being stolen from hospitals so I wouldn't personally after reading that.

I had to be moved very quickly and DP and midwife just grabbed our my stuff. Very easy for something to be missed.

Could you leave it in car and get DP to go get it once settled after baby has arrived?

Thank you both. Yes, I do know what you mean - there may not be time for me to take some photos if things go wrong and I know i would prob only worry about the camera if I had it there anyway.

Maybe I should just stick to the compact and my phone!Wink

My DH and I joked that we should get a GoPro for the birth. We ended up with an EMCS and I half wished we'd got one so I could have seen all the action!

I'm taking mine. I'll just put it in the bag with the other things.
