38 weeks here with buba number 3 and my midwife said your third can be very fast or take longer than your second but quicker than first.
My first was 24 hours (first pain to last)
Second was 12 hours
So I thought I'd ask from experience what happened to you?
Good or bad I'm prepared Confused

Mine was longer than my second (12 hours), but shorter than my first (28 hours). But it was worth than both, as DC's shoulder got wedged in my pelvis and had to be manoeuvred out. The whole thing, from first contraction to baby, was 17 hours.

By comparison, my fourth was breezy. 10 hours from start to finish. No complications whatsoever. Hmm

4 hours from start to finish. He arrived 9 minutes after my waters broke!
Currently pregnant with no. 4 and hoping it’s just as fast!
Good luck!

Wow two very different stories.
I just want enough time to get to hospital I have an image of me being on the motorway with my dh catching baby!

I was induced with the drip with my first - ended in an assisted delivery but was 12 hours. Second, natural, 24 hours. Third induction again at 39 weeks, midwife said I'd be there days or hours. 40 minutes later DD was in my arms. Was all a bit quick to be honest and didnt quite catch my breath. And I had to apologise to just about everyone within a mile radius due to my colourful language Grin

Faster. First was 12 hours, 2nd was 6 and 3rd was 3 hours. I had a pool birth too so not only was it quicker, it was also a lot less painful and a lot easier.

First 6hrs and second 3.5hrs. Third was the longest at 8 hours. Was the most difficult but dc3 was the biggest at 4lb heavier than dc1. All spontaneous and almost bang on time.

Fast, but all of my labour have been less than 3 hours. Second stage around 20 mins, much longer than the 4 minute one with ds2, much shorter than the 75 minute one with ds1. Painful-DH told me afterwards he was really worried as I was screaming like a banshee and I had smiled my way through labour with ds2 and been far less noisy and upset having ds1. Emotional- I was so angry and unpleasant. I felt out of control and it showed, apparently. My midwife said "that's third births for you" but she probably said that as I was mortified later on about how vile I had been to almost everyone in the room!

Fast but too fast. 10 minutes from 4cm to 10cm. Baby did not cry, water in the lungs. I felt like I had birthed a rocket rather than the usual watermelon.

Midwife didn't belive me when I said i was ready to push. She had just checked me 10 minutes back and was debating whether to send me home.

2nd was 12 hours active labour from 4cm dialated

3rd was 20 mins start to finish

Thank you so much for your experiences...it just shows how random all births can be.
Want it quick but 20 mins @usernameavailable that's crazy!!
Baby seems to be dancing on my cervix lately which is crippling me already.
6 years since last birth so I kinda thought being older wiser I'd feel more in control but as time is ticking over too fast I'm starting to feel like a scared little girl again!

Mines was my longest, labour was around 5 1/2, could have been as I was induced early.

I found 3rd labour the toughest, I think I expected it to be a breeze. Once my waters went he shot out though.

I also had after pains straight after delivery for about 4 days, was rather sore.

I didn’t need stitches, I have recovered the quickest with no.3.

Baby’s 1 week old today 😊

Good luck op

i think it was an easier faster birth than the other two, but it wasnt mega quick or anything. It was still just a normal birth

Another question for you all? Is it true the after pains get worse the more children you have ? With my 1st child I was just a bit sore and tender every where but 2nd child was having bad after pains that felt like was still having contractions, will the after pains be even worse when I have my 3rd ??

Report
xflipflopx · 12/10/2017 21:35

@Roxx1516
I had someone tell me the other day that their third labour after pains were worse than the actual labour...my second labour was 6 years ago so can’t even remember the after pains but defo something else to think about just when we thought it would all be over we have more s**t to deal with...oh the joys

DC1 - 28 hours
DC2 - 3.5 hours
DC3 - 3.5 hours

Agree with your friend - after pains far worse for third baby!

Report

Mine was an hour longer than my second and insanely painful. But I was induced and third was after twelve years after my second.

Doctors did say after a ten year gap your body forgets and it’s like a first labour.

No afterpains and healed pretty fast did have second degree tear.

Roxx1516 · 12/10/2017 21:56

1st labour was 8hrs 2nd labour was 4hrs. Oh no ! Why tho 😂 My mum told me the after pains might be worse with my 3rd but I didn't think theyd be much worse 🙈 Looks like I might be staying in hospital for few days with 3rd child then, can they give you anything for the after pain bar paracetamol ? Can they give me anything stronger ?

Dc2 18 hours from first twinge to birth.

Three pushes and I had a baby...

It was all a bit of a blur, but after a few hours of contractions slowly building (but not too painfully), I had about half an hour of proper labour, then felt the urge to push. And hello, dc3!

Report
SimultaneousEquation · 12/10/2017 22:03

And as the others have said, what was gained in terms of a quick labour was balanced by really painful afterpains. Owww... it’s all coming back to me.
