Hello, first time poster and ftm here so not sure at all what to expect.

I'm 41 weeks today and I've been having contractions since about 10 yesterday morning, which didn't settle into any pattern or become too painful so I didn't feel like I had to bother with going to the hospital.

26 ish hours later and I'm totally fed up - still no pattern, seem to have tailed off through the night while I tried to sleep, and have only just started picking up in intensity now (but still not anywhere near every 5 minutes) and I feel like my body just isn't doing it's job.

It also doesn't help that MIL has informed that whole side of the family and is calling every few hours to check if my waters have broken and telling me to go to the hospital even though I know they'll just send me away.

I guess the point of this post is for someone to tell me yes, what I'm going through is totally normal and it'll all be over soon!? I'm at my wits end here.

Very normal for some. While ever your waters haven't gone, and you feel you can cope, there's probably not much point going to hospital as you'll be comfier at home. I'd give them a call though, just to let them know and get some reassuring words.

I had the opposite problem. My waters went but then NOTHING. That was also very frustrating, sat in hospital getting my temperature taken all through the night to check for infection, hearing other people's newborns, but knowing I was no nearer to meeting mine! I did meet him eventually a few days later. It just feels like an age!

I hope it picks up for you soon. Good luck!

Thanks Edgar. I think I'll give them a call now and just ask for some advice, it can't hurt.

I guess I just expected everything to go a lot quicker at this point!

In the same situation here dont know what to do!

Littlekezza if it helps at all I gave the midwives a ring and was basically just advised to rest, bounce on the birthing ball and take paracetamol etc and that I didn't have to come in unless my waters broke or contractions were more regular i.e. Every five mins.

She said something about this just being my body putting my cervix into the right shape, preparing for dilation - I can't remember the exact term she used though. She also mentioned that this stage can go on for a few days Hmm

If you're worried I would give them a call!

Beachbelly, you must be fed up and if its any help at all perhaps a really good walk would help move things along.

And to be honest I can't believe I just suggested that given at the same stage of things I just wanted to tell people to bugger of with their 'advice'.

I bloody well hated them.

Thanks beachball I've been using a birthing ball last few weeks but it doesn't progress into active labour Sad have they given u an induction date? Mines the 4th! Thanks for the advice just wish the real thing would start!

Fiveboys, I'll try tomorrow but I'm tiring out so easily. Maybe a few goes up and down my stairs will do the trick!

Littlekezza, I know, I'm finding the birthing ball quite ineffective myself. If anything it just hurts my back! Yes, I'm booked in for induction on the 1st but I seriously cannot see the end of the tunnel at this point. Contractions have now stopped Sad

I know what a relief. I can't believe how long the wait is between due date and induction, it's enough to send anyone mental. Hope to hear some good news from you soon xx

Best of luck
I had a similar experience, contractions came and went for days, eventually ramped up naturally though. You'll likely at least feel looked after in hospital. 👶 cuddles soon!

Good luck beachball! I'm 39 weeks today and fed up. Been having Braxton hicks every evening for weeks now, had a sweep and a show yesterday and started tightening every 15 minutes yesterday eve, then all fizzled out and I've had about 3 contractions so far today. Just want it to stop or progress into proper labour. Having reflexology tonight to see if that works! Good luck to everyone still waiting x

Oh gosh don't say that I don't want a pessary otherwise 😂 had you been getting cramps before induction?
