If your first birth was a planned or unplanned c section, what did your second birth end up as?

I had a vbac after an EMCS, and it was definitely the right choice for me. It meant I was able to be up and about soon after, and could still pick up and cuddle my first child. I recovered in a matter of days rather than weeks.

My first was an emcs. Planned an elcs with dc2 due to my age and a couple of health issues. She had other ideas: popped out in less than 90 mins 12 days before elcs date. So I had a surprise vbac! All fine Smile

First was classed as emergency, but wasn't a crash section. I was in slow labour after pessaries fir hours and hours and was eventually advised to have a c-section.

Planned a vbac for no.2, but had some health issues that meant I needed to have another 'elective' (knew 24 hours before) planned section.

Honestly? I was all geared up fir a vbac after c-section. Did all thhe natural birth, hypnobirthing classes etc....but my elective was a dream. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. So serene, no pain, I felt amazing afterwards.

Just my story!

Vbac, but it was all a bit grim. Failure to progress as he was back to back, syntocinon drip, and then finally managed to get him out (ripping everything) when they were prepping theatre for EMCS. He was fine but I had to stay in for five days while they worked on my tears.
If you opt for VBAC, please insist on CFM.
I had vbac2 for dc3 as they decided my history did not warrant ELCS and it all went very wrong due to lack of monitoring.

Vbac, was pretty amazing being able to walk and do everything straight away and just feeling so light post birth. Also, as I had never gone through labour because of planned c section last time, I'm kind of glad to have actually experienced it. However, no one gives you a medal! Not sure I'd want to go it again if ever had a third one, c section was definitely easier. Happy I've had both experiences though.

Not sure if this is useful but my 4th was an elective section and my 5th was an emergency section (1, 2 and 3 were vaginal).

DC1 was a cat1 emcs. I'd describe it as eventful but all handled very professionally & Largely positive experience

DC2 attempted Vbac and it was absolutely horrendous. Baby was in distress for a long period. Drs were completely panicking. I'd been told that the threshold for switching to cs would be very low this time. In reality once we'd started down the path of vbac they were very very reluctant to perform a cs despite the baby's distress and the drs obvious concern. None of it felt safe. Dr told my mum in the corridor that she would continue with vbac as long as possible even if that resulted in a general anesthetic and a crash cs due to the baby's distress. I still cannot understand why they were willing to take that risk to the baby just for the sake of me pushing DC2 out through my foof rather than the sunroof. I was totally traumatised and needed counselling afterwards.

I'd bought into all this vbac is best. But the reality is it's only best if it's straightforward and your at the mercy of the dr u get on the day in terms of whether they will switch from vbac to cs. I would consider very carefully what your threshold would be for switching to cs and make sure you have assurances that you can change plan midway if you feel things are going really off track. I wouldn't recommend vbac after this experience. Elcs would have been much better for me and baby.
