I'm really interested to hear people's second baby labour experiences.

My first was a long, drawn out induction that ended in EMCS 4 days after if started, hoping for something slightly better this time!

My 2nd was 14 days late, had to be induced. Contractions started pretty quick after 1st pessary. Baby was back to back so contractions were different to first. Was pretty quick and intense, managed with gas &a air and quick recovery. After pains were a nuisance 🙈

My second was much quicker than first, may be just 8 hours labour, first one was two days. But he was much bigger, came out with hand forward, had shoulder dystocia, I have many birth injuries that I am waiting to repair after dc3 is done breastfeeding.

My first was a week early. Super long labour. Lots of stitches at the end. I was quite traumatised.

My second (10 days ago) was amazing. I only have positive feelings about it. I went a week over and had to be induced. I had propess pessary, contractions started nice and gentle 15 hours later then I had my waters broken and got in to the pool and baby was born 3 hours later. He was 9lb and I had no stitches. It was beautiful and so not what I was expecting.

1st was 11 days late, 7.5 hours from first twinge to baby.

2nd was induction for PROM at 38+6 (was supposed to be induced the day after anyway for low volume of waters but they popped early) 4.5 hours from pessary to baby

It's great to hear other people's stories - I guess I'm trying to get into the positive mindset that second time may be better, and hope that the positivity helps!!

DD1 came in 3 hours after an induction. DD2 came in an hour and a half. Natural births both times, gas and air only not by choice and some stitches. They were both fairly big babies and I was advised that subsequent children would be sections due to my anatomy. I told the person concerned not to worry, as there would be no more children for me!

Much easier to handle and much faster. I did hypnobirthing which helped IMO.

Much faster and more painful- the epidural didn't work so I had no pain relief

DC1 was 2 weeks late, I was induced. It wasn't terrible but I pushed for a long time and needed stitches. And had a haemorrhage. So not brilliant. I was so weak from the blood loss and resulting low iron that I couldn't walk for about 3 days.
DC2 was a week late, I started contracting at about 8am, v gentle for most of the day - even napped through it at about 2 to 4 pm. Got painful around 6. Fed DC1 and put him to bed around 8, headed into the hospital. I was monitored for about 45 minutes, then they gave me an internal exam. The midwife said I was 7cm, turned her back to do some paperwork and my waters went. They started moving me to a delivery room, I refused to sit in the wheelchair, announced that I needed to push so I did a couple of pushes standing in the corridor, then they helped me hobble to the nearest room and DD was out 15 minutes later. My (admittedly minimal) makeup was still intact it was that fast. No stitches. Able to hop off the bed and move around within 30 minutes of delivery. It was great. Didn't even have time for gas and air, and didn't feel like I needed it. Maybe the last few contractions when I was being monitored I'd have liked it. But it was totally fine.

Ds, first labour- waters broke with blood in, went into labour pretty much straight away but had to labour in hospital because of the bloody waters. 24 hours later labour hadn't progressed enough so had to be augmented with a synto drip. 5, frankly horrific hours later ds was born. I had nightmares about it for a year.

Dd, lots of Braxton hicks and false starts but actual labour when it finally happened was 5 hours, no tears, easy recovery. Much, much better!

DC1 labour was 4.5 hours, most of it pushing.

DC2 labour was 1.5 hours, and he was out in two pushes. Or "expulsive contractions" as it says in my notes!

After a first labour similar to yours that resulted in a long stay in hospital afterwards...I opted for a ELCS second time Grin

DC2 pretty much fell out on his own. 2 pushes in total - one of his head then one for the rest of him. 3hrs from first twinge. Very painful but no drugs or intervention required.

DC1 was a completely different, traumatic story but the silver lining is that she obviously cleared a big, wide path for her little brother Blush

First was a very, very long latent phase and quite a long active phase and 45 mins pushing.

Second was 12 hours after I woke with contractions and much more textbook. Arrived 6 mins after waters going and pushing. Much better experience.

I'm pregnant with no2 I'm really pleased with all the quick labours hopefully that's me this time too. I'm planning on doing hypnobirthing to help.

DD1 37 hrs from twinge to baby-gas and air only. Basically went on forever, pushed for 3 hrs, thankfully kind midwife in mlu didn't clock watch too much and just let it take its time.

DD2 5 hrs from twinge to baby, only half an hour from proper pain and suddenly head engaged to baby so didn't make it to hospital. Gas and air for final 3 minutes when the ambulance arrived just in time.

3rd degree tear first time: tiny, early DS1 turned at the last minute! About 23 hours from waters breaking.

DS2 arrived in a couple of pushes just after I'd jumped into the birthing pool. Walking around during labour definitely spurred things on. Couple of stitches.

First labour....waters broke at 6am on Friday am and DS was dragged out at 9pm the following day. Second labour, contraction woke me at 11pm and DS born at 1.50am...v nearly a 'car on the way to hospital' birth. In essence; rather quicker.

1st labour was in labour for 12hrs. Had every drug going. Was prepped for c-section in end but delivered by forceps. 2nd labour only gas and air and pethadine. Was in labour 5 1/2hrs. Only problem I had after second labour was the big bleed. Good luck. :) x

This is relatively reassuring as someone who tore badly with my rather late ds1 and is ttc #2 :)

The general consensus really does appear second labours are much quicker than first!

Fingers crossed for no induction this time, and nature can just take its course!
