Hi ladies so as the title says how many of you first time went into spontaneous labour and at how many weeks? I am 36+3 so wondering whether to be on the look out? Had back ache and such but not really painful braxton hicks or anything - although I've heard not everyone gets them anyway. Baby is head down and lots of pressure going on!!!

Thanks :)

Hello :) went into spontaneous labour with my first born at 41 weeks. I didn't have any stretch and sweeps - refused them as prefered for nature to take its course. Remember normal human gestation is anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks so don't panic if you go over 40 - it's never an exact science.

My waters broke first and then contractions started gradually, however I know some women who started with gradually strengthening contractions and waters didn't break til later on.

Everybody is different just listen to your body and stay calm!

Good luck with everything Flowers

Spontaneous labour at 41+1, waters didn't break just a show then contractions. Baby born 8 hrs later.

I didn't, I went in to be induced at 42 weeks. Had a pessary. Went into labour ar 2.45am the next day, he was born at 5.14am. Ds2 and ds3 were spontaneous labours. Tbh I think I'd have gone into labour without the pessary within a day or two- my bishops score indicated that it was imminent.

Had my show at 40+2, contractions started late at night on 40+3 every 7 minutes. However I was insufficiently dilated to be admitted until my waters went on 40+6 and had meconium in. Didn't actually give birth until 11.30pm that day after having hormone drip and forceps assistance!

Googling suggests that 1 in 4 labours are induced in the UK.

Hmm so it look likes another month for me? At about 40 weeks average for a first timer?

37+6 weeks I had backache and a little bit of pressure from about 6pm. Ignored it and just had a bath and put my hot water bottle on my back and went to sleep. Woke up at 7am and my waters had broke and then Dd was born an hour later!

I had it drilled into me 'you will know when you are in labour' and how much agony it was but I mostly slept through mine and had no idea.

I'm wondering this too... Current status: 38+6 and feel like I'm going to be pregnant forever. Lots of pressure... Feels like daggers at times... But it all just comes and goes.
Midwife has said she can do a sweep on Tuesday (reminds me of Sooty and Sweep Grin) but I'm wondering if I should just let it all happen naturally??

I did at 38+2 and dd was born 6 hours later! It's up to you with the sweep but it mat get things going!

Eminybob · 09/07/2017 11:00

Yeah I did at 37+4.

My waters went first, "Hollywood" style and then contractions started exactly an hour later.
DS was born approx 13 hours later.

Yes, 38+6 I guess, baby born next morning.

Wondering the same!
I'm 40+5 and really fed up of waiting!
I had an "attempted" sweep at 40+1 but I couldn't tolerate it (midwife had long nails!!! I was crawling up the bed) totally put me off now she's offered me another one on Tuesday but I'll wait for it to happen naturally or be induced a week later!
Like you head is down with lots of pressure. I've had BH especially in the night but it never materialises to anything more! Haven't had a show or anything.

40 + 4 on no1 but spontaneous
Next two were induced

Johnskymberlina · 09/07/2017 11:11

Hmmm I think I'm going to be on the look out from about 39/40 weeks then?? Another month really!!!

As for the sweep it's personal preference I suppose, I would prefer the hard core drugs but that's just me Grin

Hope all these babies come sooner rather than later, I hate being pregnant in this heat!!!!

Yes to spontaneous labour, 1 week overdue, was already in hospital though due to bleeding and they were almost going to induce me. The little darling then took another 3 days to arrive Hmm

MiniAlphaBravo · 09/07/2017 11:20

Yes at 41+3. I would say another month yep. Some people are earlier, some need inducing but on average most give birth somewhere around 40 weeks.

I did - 1st baby my waters broke first at 39+6 (well 11pm that day!) then contractions started. She was born at 40+1.
With ds my labour was also spontaneous and started with contractions at 39+5. He was born the next day

Yep, on my due date :) contractions started early hours and waters went a few hours later. Baby was with us the next day :)

I hadn't had any braxton hicks and didn't have a show until after things got going.

I was 39 weeks exactly when I went into labour. Started with contractions about 5am, went into hospital at 8:30 and they offered a sweep which I said yes to - bloody hell did that get things moving. Went from 4cm to 7cm in under an hour and gave birth by lunchtime. My waters didn't break until I was pushing and the force of it sort of shot DS right out - 4 minutes of pushing and it was done (and that was only because he got stuck and they had to use the ventouse (sp?) ).

38+6
Called the MW at mid day (on my husbands insistence) to say I thought early labour was starting. Random pains but not painful and some slight trickles of waters.
DC1 was born just before 3pm that afternoon. Arrived at the hospital fully dilated and was fighting every urge my body had to push during the 10 minute drive to get there.
