Childbirth

Help, I've forgotten everything

Well, not everything. I remember pain and stuff. But I can't remember how to prepare for giving birth and going into hospital and having a baby afterwards.

I'm 35 weeks today and am currently Veeting my legs, which I remember doing last time. I've got snacks and drinks (priorities, innit) and toiletries for my hospital bag today, and hoping to pick up everything else this weekend.

What do I need to do? I've been so concerned with getting childcare sorted for my 2.5yo that I forgot about myself and the new baby Grin also having a summer baby this time whereas DS was born at Christmas, so slightly freaked out at how to dress the new baby.

(PS DS was born naturally at 38 weeks, so shit could be going down pretty soon)

Get bouncing on a ball! There's not much you can really do to prepare other than attending your appointments, sitting to encourage baby into a good position, and packing your hospital bag.

Bouncing on a ball is a good start though.

I'm 35 weeks too, and equally worried about dressing a summer baby. Mainly at night time! She will be in a vest and sleepsuit most of the time, (one layer more than us rule) but I'm sure it will all come back to us when they arrive.

And maybe raspberry leaf tea!

Oh I'm not in a hurry to get things going as such - can barely walk the head is so low down already Confused I suppose I could do some cooking. Just feel like there's something really important that I should be doing that I've completely forgotten about!

Bouncing on the ball will only encourage baby into the best position, but it sounds like baby is already in the best position being so low down already. Mine is happily trying to climb up into my throat as I type! She's no where near engaged yet.

You could cook meals in advance? If you're super duper organised? I like to think I'm organised but then I keep eating the snacks I have packed for labour, so I need to buy them back again! 😊

Raspberry leaf tea is supposed to be good in the build up. Otherwise it's all practical stuff, washing baby's clothes, organising childcare, writing a birth plan.

You do sound far more patient than me. I can't wait for it to be over now! In a couple of weeks we shall be full term and on look out for labour symptoms. Try and enjoy the last few weeks, the first few weeks with a newborn are not best known for sleep!

I had 4.5 years between mine and worried i had forgotten everything also ds2 is August and ds1 was Feburary I worried about dressing him but it all came back and was much easier I didn't have time to worry about how many layers etc just got on with it.

Second time is a breeze you are safe with the knowledge number 1 is alive so odds are you can keep the next one alive too Grin

I remember the bowling ball feeling with my second too!
Clothes for baby - vests, babygros, nappies (maybe a hat or blanket too - don't forget the car seat!). Cotton wool at the very least, (you can add in nappy cream etc if you want.)
Formula and bottles if you are planning to formula feed, Breast pads also.
For you, outfit for giving birth in - short sleeve nightie, pjs, bikini, whatever takes your fancy, and then something to wear after. Also some comfy clothes for being on the ward with, or going home in, plus the very important maternity (or otherwise) towels.
Snacks that you like are a bonus, and drinks that you enjoy.
Music if you feel inclined.
I think that about covers it. Smile

35 weeks here with no.2 too, she feels so low down if I'm sat on the loo too long my bits feel weird till everything goes back up a bit Shock never had anything like this with dc1. Lots of braxton hicks here today too, they were strong enough to make me finish packing hospital bag earlier!!

There's 3.5 years between mine, I feel ever so rusty. And dd was born in October so I'm also thinking about summer baby clothes. Guess I'll just see what happens!

I've got the newborn and 0-3 clothes out and have done an inventory. Not really feeling any more clued up about whether I've got enough, but do remember the daily dashes to Sainsbury's for more sleepsuits, so not too panicked.

Glad to see I'm not the only one fretting about seasonally opposite babies!
