Hi I'm having a planned c section in a couple of weeks and wondered what people's experiences were. Thanks

Hi

I had one and it was brilliant. Painless during and after - no discomfort at all. Safe, happy birth with lovely music playing. Very happy memory. Enjoy it.

Hi there, is it your first pregnancy ??
I'm pregnant with my 6th and this will also be my 6th section too, would do c-section over labour any day. I've had labour with some of my other pregnancies but already booked for the sections. Planned section are very relaxed and different to emergencies.
After your section take your pain relief and take your time to do things at your own speed, but the earlier you get up and start moving, even if it's slowly the better. I found that when I got up in the I was very stiff and that's when it hurt the most.
Good luck and just try to enjoy it all, it's really not bad how some people make out or expect x

Hi thanks for your replays, it's my second pregnancy first ended up in theatre with rotational forceps due to low pubic arch so having c section this time . I'm due to have the c section 2 weeks today so feeling a little nervous x

I found it very calm and civilised. Very different experience to my emcs. Recovery has also been quick and fine. I also have happy memories of my elective, it laid a lot of ghosts from my earlier traumatic birth and brought me my wonderful baby girl.

vickyors · 28/04/2017 19:31

I had a very tough first birth, with various interventions. Then an episiotomy that didn't heal... etc etc. Second time round, I had to have a c section, and it was beautiful.
Bloody painful afterwards- because you've literally been cut in half, but the experience itself was lovely. Calm. I knew where I was going. The theatre played music we liked, I had an epidural, lay back and 3 mins later our daughter was born; came out crying! We had delayed Cord clamping, and she was put on my chest. It was, comparative to my tough first experience, just lovely. It was the best experience. And the scar is 4 inches long. (I had little babies tho..)
Bloody painful for 2 weeks though! 😂
I had such good care both times though.. just first one was bad by chance.. good luck.

mommabear2017 · 28/04/2017 20:00

Well so far so good it's just entering the unknown. I fully expect to be in pain afterwards and have been told to keep on top of my meds even when not in pain

Yes, they told me the same, momma and it worked. I really didn't have pain. The only downside is it can take ages for your milk to kick in. I think the painkillers suppress the milk. If breastfeeding is very important to you, you might need to take some other meds that boost your supply. I didn't know this at the time and it would have been useful to know.

Sal1977 · 29/04/2017 10:58

I had one yesterday! It was great!

I got to watch the baby coming out, skin to skin, DH cut the cord. It was lovely. Got loads of photos and videos!

I'm tender today but pain meds are good and I was up and about fairly quickly!

We won't have any more babies but if we did, I'd do it all over again! You'll love it.

mommabear2017 · 29/04/2017 18:13

So far so good with the comments , it's making me feel much better. How long did it take you lady's untill you was up and about also did you feel out of it after the c section x

I had dd at 11.40am. My ds and sister came to visit me that day. By the next morning I'd had a walk, a wash and a wee. Stayed in for 2 nights then home, managing stairs etc pretty well.

Sal1977 · 30/04/2017 02:29

Baby born at 4pm, not out of it at all, catheter out and walking to the bathroom at 6am.

Lotsofqueries · 02/05/2017 19:57

What's the reason for the planned section?

mommabear2017 · 02/05/2017 20:38

I've got an extremely low pubic arch and when I had my little boy he got stuck had to be rushed to theatre and rotational forceps used to get him out but they even struggled with the forceps and I lost 1000mls blood so having a c section this time as little boy was over 8 pounds and baby is showing bigger

Some people seem almost back to normal in a few hours, I felt a bit sore for about a week (have had 2 c sections, same both times), but you'll be encouraged to get moving quite soon after, and will be able to do everything for your baby within 12 hours.
My milk came in v quickly, but I only took painkillers when actually in pain as they made me drowsy and confused, so that could be why?
Mine were a while back, and you were told not to lift any thing too heavy for a couple of weeks, and not to drive for 6 weeks, which was the most limiting aspect. But the second time I rung my insurer after 4 weeks, and they were happy with me driving if I felt OK (which I did). Could be different now though?
I had some pain for prob 3-4 weeks, but was very manageable after the first few days.

MrsELM21 · 02/05/2017 20:50

Amazing, I also had a toddler at the time so it was like a mini break! Really relaxed and organised which I liked, it did hurt quite quickly afterwards but I had DD at lunchtime and was up & about by myself the following morning, wouldn't even contemplate a natural birth again!

mommabear2017 · 02/05/2017 21:35

Thank you for all the replays, it's certainly filling me with confidence, what time did you ladies have to go in on the day and how long was you waiting what was the routine x

Boosiehs · 02/05/2017 21:39

Hello! I had a planned section for similar reasons to you, DS1 was large (nearly 10lbs) and had shoulder dystocia and PPH.

ELCS was bloody brilliant. Had DS2 at 1050am, in the ward by 3. Up and mini shower at 10pm. Home by 4 the next day! Recovery was MUCH quicker than DS1

Boosiehs · 02/05/2017 21:39

Went in at7.30am. Went in about 10am as they had a couple of emercencies to deal with first.

mommabear2017 · 02/05/2017 21:39

Wow that's so good x

Patsy99 · 02/05/2017 21:47

I had one after a difficult vaginal delivery with DS1.

It was great! Discharged after 24 hours with a packet of paracetamol. Except for not being able to drive the recovery was easier than after the vagina delivery.

I found the actual section itself pretty weird but it was fine.

mommabear2017 · 02/05/2017 21:50

Yes I can imagine it feels quite strange , all good replays so far. Hopefully I won't be in long , did you ladies go to recovery afterwards and how long for or did you go straight back to your room/ward were you allowed visitors straight away x

OP posts:
Patsy99 · 02/05/2017 22:01

I was in recovery for 2 hours (which was lovely, skin to skin and feeding) then a private room became available so I paid for that rather than go on the ward.

Well worth it as DH could stay overnight with me which was good - I was pretty incapacitated with the epidural and catheter for about 12 hours and midwives are in short supply.

I had forceps first time second time they offered me a section or to wait and see (i was in labour) I went for the section technically it was an emcs but the baby wasn't in destress and I was ok so not a rush at all.

The section was so much better everyone but me was calm and chatting he was out so quickly then the stitching up was over quickly. It was painful after but nothing conpaired to the forceps. If I have another I will be planning a section.

Anditstartsagain · 02/05/2017 22:05

I was in recovery 2 hours then to the ward it was about 2am the midwives took ds2 fed him dressed and swaddled him then brought him back a couple of hours later. It was great.

Twinmummytobe · 03/05/2017 20:52

Hi can I join? I just wanted to ask if any of you had c sections with premies? Will they let me hold them after delivery. I've been told I'll be brought in at 32 weeks or before to deliver my twins due to complications. 29+3 at the minute.mommabear I hope it goes well for you :)
