Sex?!

Hi so I had my beautiful girl on the 1st of April and I was just wondering how long you left it to have sex?
I had stitches, they cut me but I tore as well because I ended up having to have forceps. I feel fine but I don't want to rush into it, so I was just wondering when the majority got back to it haha

10 weeks after dc1 and 4 weeks after dc2, 1 stich after both births, no forceps.
Honestly after forceps id leave it a while in case of internal bruising. You can still do the rest of it, oral etc without piv of course.

Think as long as YOU feel ok and you both take it slow and careful then fire on! I was about 3wks after dc1, and as there's only 13 months between dc2 & dc3 ....... Blush

Not sure you need GP advice tbh

Thought I'd give you some heads up too. Your breast is likely to leak milk... so you might want to keep bra and pads on Grin
Also make sure you have lubricant at hand to counter vaginal dryness.

I was also cut, had forceps and had a third degree tear and left it until about 8 weeks although I did feel ready before that. I waited for my 6 week check to make sure everything was healed and then by the time we got round to it I was 8 weeks PP.

Surprisingly I had no pain and it wasn't particularly uncomfortable either, I think the doctor who stitched me must have done a great job!

Congratulations and good luck.

I think i waited about 8 weeks. I tore so had stitches. It can still be very uncomfortable 9 months later Sad

I had a v bad tear and wS unable to have sex until I had a remedial operation at 3 months postpartum. We first had sex at 4 months but it was painful. Felt normal by about 9 months postpartum

Sorry to butt in, but anyone willing to share experiences after C-section? I'm assuming I have to wait until 6 week check-up?

9 weeks. I can count on one hand how many times we've done it since DS was born 18 months as it was so painful. Still hurts now.

Regardless of tears and stitches, it can still be painful. It was after my c section, very tight and uncomfortable. I can't remember how long we left it post c section, not very long, a couple if weeks I think. I had to be careful!

Cuppaqueen I think it was about 10 weeks after my emcs.
In general after giving birth: use Lots of lube. Take it at your pace and you in control. If it gets too painful, stop or slow down.
Use protection! Apparently, women are a lot more fertile just after giving birth.
Some women swear by having a couple of glasses of wine to relax first Grin
It will get easier, don't put too much pressure on yourself Flowers

froo,
Tell me about it.😬
I had a 3rd degree tear with my first and only child 7 years ago.
It was at least 6 months if I'm being honest .

18 months after a 4th degree tear. Waited a further 18 months after that and that was only to TTC!

DS was born with only a small tear and no stitches. We waited about 3 weeks.
DD is 10 days old, no tear or stitches but it isn't on the agenda at the minute😉

7 weeks for me. Wanted it before but was worried as I had a cervical tear and also still bleeding slightly.

I had forceps the first time & left it a good few months. It hurt for the first few times but was fine after that. I'd recommend a bit of lube!

Around 6 weeks. Was pregnant with no.2 by the time no.1 was 3 months (despite exclusively breastfeeding!) but that was fine with us as we wanted them as close as possible.

These threads always make me feel a bit down because it's been six months and DH and I still haven't had full sex. I had episiotomy and ventouse and sex was really painful afterwards. It's getting better now thankfully but these threads tend to make me feel kind of dysfunctional.

Report
Crumbelina · 03/05/2017 18:23

Oh, don't feel dysfunctional, Fartness - that sounds completely normal to me!

I had an EMCS (so all intact down there) and it took aaaaaages before I felt like it again. I was sleep deprived, my scar was healing, I was trying to deal with breastfeeding and my body didn't feel like my own. DTD was the last thing I wanted to do and so we didn't for several months and DH was clever enough not to raise the subject. Smile The first time really hurt for some reason (I've heard that's common with a CS) but it was fine after that.

Report
FartnissEverbeans · 03/05/2017 19:02

Thanks Crumbelina. I think you're right that it's caused by a few things - I've just been so tired, and am so sick of being poked and prodded down there... childbirth has made me a bit skittish. And it does hurt quite a bit too (well, last time we tried it was mainly discomfort).

3 weeks the first time and that was after a c-section so downstairs was fine. Second birth was natural with a second degree test and stitching. 20 weeks postpartum this time because we were both terrified of me falling apart. No issues!

DC1 3rd degree tear and I felt a bit traumatised by the whole labour and delivery. Took us a year before we had sex. DC2 is 6 months and I think we'll get round to it before 7 months. DH has the patience of a saint!

MotherofBoy · 03/05/2017 20:26

Oh fartness! I didn't have sex until 4 months and that was only after an operation enabled me to! And it was v painful even then. Don't feel dysfunctional. It really does take time especially after a birth injury. Look after yourself there are plenty of other ways to be close to your partner that aren't penetrative Flowers
