Acupuncture to bring on labour- how to fund a place that does it?

I want to get acupuncture down to help bring on labour (I'm overdue). It might be an old wives tale but if nothing else it should be nice and relaxing. How do u find someone who can do it? Can any acupuncturist do it? Or is there a specific Specialism or certification I should look out for?

The NHS website recommends that your practitioner is a member of The British Acupuncture Council (not sure if you're in the U.K.?) to ensure your safety, they're properly qualified, vetted etc. Maybe call some local acupuncturists to discuss your requirements. I loved going for all sorts of alternative therapies in all of my pregnancies and like you say if nothing else it will be a lovely treat! Hope you're doing ok, being overdue is a nightmare! Unless you've given birth by now as your OP was a few days ago

I think it's not supposed to work quite like that. You need to have a series of treatments to bring on labour starting before you are overdue.

I had them with dd1 starting at about 38/39 weeks until she was born at 40+6.

I would not go to any local acupuncturist and search internet/area for someone who is registered and someone who is with specialty in fertility and birth. Where are you located? Archway area north london has acupuncture academy, they work with wittington hospital maternity and excellent. There is a good person in barnett area of london.

Definitely only go to someone registered with the British acupuncture council.
I briefly looked into this as I fully expected to go overdue with my second as I had done with my first.
Turned out I didn't so I didn't need to persue. However I did email a local acupuncturist who I had found as she was my GPs wife!

This was part of her reply:
Yes it is an area that I specialise in.
It cannot be done before 40 weeks/ full term and only for normal pregnancies and for someone with no history of complications in pregnancy other than previous induction.
It involves putting in some needles for a short period of time about 20 mins in various locations, usually including the lower back.
