So this is my first child I was just wondering what is it actually like when your waters break, I mean you see it in films and it comes gushing out like Niagara Falls! I just don't know what to expect. Please excuse I'm naivety.

My waters broke at 39+4. I heard and felt a pop, it felt like an air bubble popping inside, not uncomfortable. I was sitting down, and when I stood up there was a liquid stream from down below, but not a massive amount. Then it kept leaking periodically. I actually wasn't convinced it was really my waters for a while because it's unusual for them to go like that. Ended up being induced on the drip because they want the baby out within 48hrs after them going because of the infection risk Confused

I got back into bed in the middle of the night after nipping to the loo and My waters started started coming out in small gushes, and everytime I moved a little more would come out. Then three hours later when I was about to be examined on the birthing unit I had a big contraction and they just gushed out everywhere, all over the bed and the floor, I vividly remember being surprised at how much there was.

I felt a pop and then a massive gush and then I leaked overtime I walked. I was having regular contractions by then though. Think it is different for everyone. With my first 2 pregnancies they were broken by the midwife when I was in labour.

My waters went before I had any contractions - I went to the loo about 2am and when I stood up it felt like I'd just carried on going 😂
Think it was a little gush (I didn't hear/ notice a pop that I remember) then i was constantly leaking for a while
Remember to call in if you think your waters have gone, even if you havnt had a contraction.. They want the baby delivered within 24hours to minimise infection

I was 41 weeks and my watered went whilst I was asleep, I just remember waking up thinking I'd had a little accident as it didn't feel that much so went to the loo and on my way to the bathroom I kept leaking, never a brig gush but kept leaking until baby was born 66hrs later!!! I do remember leaking through a pad at one point in the hospital I think too

Mine didn't go until well after I was fully dilated and pushing - when they did, it felt like a slight 'sinking' in my pelvis and then (looking upsides down through my legs on all fours) I could see a trickle. It wasn't dramatic at all. It can happen at pretty much any stage, providing of course they aren't broken for you as part of induction or otherwise.

I woke up around 5am with a sort of pop.. Then when I stood up there was a gush. So in my case it was like you see on TV! I didn't have any signs of labour prior to waters going, and then it was quite a few hours from waters breaking to contractions starting

Mine were broken by the registrar and a veritable tsunami hit the floor, hit the skirting board and came back towards the registrar's rather fetching green clogs! She didn't bat an eyelid and simply shouted 'cleaning team!'

I was 39 weeks exactly, woke up and then a few seconds later felt a pop and a huge gush! Got to the loo and sorted myself out (make sure you have a stock of heavy duty pads just in case it happens!)
Went to the hospital to get checked out and was so shocked at how much I continued to leak. All day long, changing pads and lady incontinace pads all the time!!
Contractions didn't start for me unfortunately so I was induced the next day.

Mine went before contractions started. I woke up in the middle ofthe night and felt a bit of water, ran to the toilet and it gushed out into the bathroom floor. I was wearing a maternity pad which caught the waters before I got to the bathroom so no cleaning up to do.

Mine broke while pushing! I was in the pool so didn't see how much came out, but my son was born half an hour later :)

My hind waters broke while I was in bed. I didn't feel it, but when I sat up I told DH I thought I had wet myself Blush They continued to trickle every now and then over the next few days but it was about 4 days before I went into labour (had to be monitored daily at hospital).

The midwife broke my fore waters during labour - so much fluid!! I remember being amazed because it felt (and looked) like there was so much more fluid than could have fitted in my bump. She put down a few of those pads (the ones that look like puppy training pads) on the floor and the waters soaked right through all of them in about a second. I made a right mess everywhere. Your Niagara Falls description fits quite well IME Grin
