Section recovery - what's normal

Hello,

I had a ELCS 5 weeks ago, ended up having a blood transfusion but apart from that everything standard...

I know everyone says give your body 6 weeks however I was just looking to see if anyone has any similar experiences.......

I am completely numb from my belly button to the top of my legs, is this normal? Will it go away?

I am still passing fairly large clots, no active bleeding unless I pass a clot...

I have contraction type pains every few days, they last about an hour and are about 9/10 on pain scale.

My wound which was looking fine is now looking a bit infected.

I know I'm a week away from the 6 weeks but just wondered if anyone had these symptoms and they actually went? I have a bad UTI I am on my third course of antibiotics from giving birth and my doc said yesterday I'm obviously just run down.

Any similar experiences would be helpful, esp the numbness as that is worrying. X

I'd say the numbness is normal. I've still got a huge numb patch 10 months on. The clots and pains I'd be more concerned about. There's still a chance there could be some retained products. I'd give your maternity unit a quick call for advice.

Thank you Welsh, I think I will give them a call as it seems to be getting worse not better.

I would be concerned about the pains because they sound bad from what you've said. I would also be concerned about the clots. I think you should discuss with mw/gp.

I had an EMCS with my DS and am scheduled for an elective next week. Numbness is pretty common and I def had a patch after DS, but I was not having severe pain after 5 weeks so do get this checked out.

Took me nearly 3 mo to recover (and still
Not really there yet!)

Make sure they swab your scar - if they don't, it doesn't matter how many antibiotics you take if they aren't specifically the right ones!

Also, take probiotics! Vital if you've had three courses of antibiotics!

Your scar area might be numb for(ever) years!

I had an ELCS a week ago and am in little pain now and the bleeding has eased lots. Scar seems to be healing well. So I would def see your doctors asap. Leaving these things could do more damage.

Hello,

Thanks for all your replies, good to know the numbness is normal.

The pain got so bad I ended up calling the out of hours doctor, I've to go for a scan and blood tests on Monday morning and have new antibiotics to try and flush the infection, I'm running a fever so they think it is an infection rather than an UTI.

Thank you for all of the advice X

I had an emergency c section 4months ago. After the c section within a week I came out with a rash which looks like hives and it's very itchy and dry. I have been to the doctors several times they thinks it's eczema but I know my body and I'm sure it's a reaction after c section. The doctor prescribed me E45 which isn't helping. Please can someone advise if they know what I mean.

I have been feeling very low and I don't don't feel confident in myself since my c section my skins itches when I wear certain clothes now.

Star, can you ask to see a different doctor? Or maybe mention it to your health visitor? I've never heard of that before, but if it's making you feel low I would speak to someone sooner rather than later.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers
