Hi, I had both of mine dcs in midwife unit. Last experience was very bad. This time I wish to have epidural. How on avarage do we stay in after epidural?

I was induced, and then had epidural and baby was also ventouse-assisted delivery. Not sure which factor played a role in how long they wanted me to stay, but I was told 24 hours. I couldn't leave before they had removed the catheter (which they put in when you have epidural) and also the cannula which was giving me IV antibiotics.

I had exactly the same sort of delivery as popskip unthread. DD born 11.40 at night and we were home by mid afternoon the following day.

Nothing could have prevented me from leaving! Smile

I had an epidural with dd1, birth was a lovely experience. Had epidural out at lunch time and was home by 6pm.
Dd2 there wasn't time for an epidural and it was a horrific birthing experience.
I'm pregnant with my 3rd and will be heading into hospital the second I go into labour and I'll keep going back until I'm 4cm to be sure I can get the epidural!

I had to have epidural last minute as DS went back to back and was stuck so they used forceps but if he didn't come out with forceps we're going to go straight into c section, as it was a traumatic birth I'm assuming that was part of staying over night but they wouldn't let me leave until I had gone for several wees and after an epidural I found that really hard as didn't need to go so drink loads of water and fingers crossed you won't have a long stay!
Good luck and congratulation

I would have been allowed home after a few hours but had to stay for other reasons. Oh and you're not always catheterised I wasn't, every few hours they would drain my bladder bug it wasn't left in.

I think it's hard to say as everybody's birthing experiences are different I had the epidural loved it but I ended up with a forceps and cut as baby wasn't coming back to back I was in for 2 nights and even at that they weren't letting me home I begged cause I ended up quite I'll after it all I did have the catheter in for the night after I had the baby and they wouldn't take the IV line out until I had gone wee a few times myself.. I recommend the epidural I'm due number 2 in March and will definitely be getting it again
