Childbirth

Post c-section swelling...normal?

I had my 4th child 4 days ago, and since then my feet and fingers have been constantly swollen.

The midwife came yesterday and for the first time my BP was also up in the low 130's (it is normally about 118 - low 120's), so this is also unusual for me. She wasn't overly worried however and is coming back tomorrow or Sunday.

Should I be worried? This isn't something I've noticed before, but my feet and ankles are huge! My milk has also just come in and my boobs are hugely over-inflated, wondering if breastfeeding may also be playing a part here?

I don't think it is usual to have swollen feet and hands after a c-section (I've had two CSs). However if the midwife is coming back tomorrow then it sounds like she is monitoring the situation. Huge boobs at day 4 is pretty normal I think!

My feet, ankles and legs swelled up in a frightening way about 2 days after my section. You've never seen anything like it, I thought my skin would rip. I called for help and no one was concerned, said it was normal and that it would go on its own. I was advised to make sure I was drinking enough and moving enough. It went away on its own and I was fine but it was bloody scary!

Thanks to you both,

The midwife came again and checked my blood pressure. With a lot more water and a tiny bit of extra sleep my blood pressure has gone back down to normal - phew!

I still have the swelling, but she didn't seem concerned. Hopefully I can look forward to wearing a normal pair of shoes soon!
