Mucus plug

I realise that "everyone is different" but there must be some statistics on the time between the mucus plug falling out and labour starting. Does anyone know what the average is? Or better still, if there is a graph?

I didn't really have a plug as such, but I went from nothing at all to having tiny bit of mucus and bloody show then baby appeared 5 hours later Smile

My contractions were well underway by the time I lost my plug. I went into hospital about 90 minutes later and was 5cm

Labour had already started for me by the time mine fell out. But then I was in labour for five days Angry

Mine came out on Thursday morning at 4am (one bog contraction), dd was born on Monday at midday. I had contractions on and off for that whole time.

Second baby my waters went before contractions started so no plug. I really think it's different for everyone but I'd be surprised if there's more than 5-6 days between plug and baby!

My waters went approx 10 mins after I lost my plug. I had been induced so that might make a difference?

I have had two kids and never noticed losing a "plug"

Had a minor blob of plug on a Tues AM, big full on PLUG by Tues around 5 or 6 pm. Waters broke 2 am. In delivery room by 7 am ... Then baby took ages to arrive thanks to epi slowing things down but arrived 16.30 on Weds.

No 2 was an induction and I didn't notice my plug coming out at all.

You could build yourself a graph of everyone volunteered their info! I think mine was 4pm on the day of birth. No water breaking for me and I had a c section that midnight. (Labour started after it went but very gradual.)

1st I lost it about 4 hours before giving birth probably at about 6cm

2nd I started losing it from about 34 weeks (they stopped labour at 34 weeks and I was given steroids for baby's lungs)

Currently pregnant with my 3rd starting losing bits of my plug around 16 weeks, having a cervical length scan next week to check nothing is happening

1st time it started coming away a couple of hours after the contractions had started.
2nd & 3rd time it started coming away exactly 16 hours before contractions started.

My plug went on a Monday. Had DD the following Sunday!

With my first labour I had the baby about 12 hours after I lost the plug. I'd already been having mild contractions for a few hours.

I don't remember it happening at all with the next two.

I had a bloody show 12hrs before DD was born. I read something that said if the plug comes out tinged with blood like that, labour is probably more imminent than if it's just bits of clear mucous, because the blood is from the thinning/dilating cervix, whereas the plug itself can keep being replaced and if it's noticed at all it can still be weeks before labour starts.
