What do the hospital prefer you to do vis a vis grooming before a CS? I'm really not that hairy in general and wondering if I should just let hospital loose with a razor or whether I should get waxed or use immac or something? Half worried I'd irritate the skin in the area which wouldn't be great. Anyone get away with not needing to be shaved? Thanks!

They don't do anything or they didn't for me anyway. The section is considerably higher than my hair line though.

I had a Brazilian before my second elcs. Most important to wax the top part as otherwise you risk the hairs being yanked out when they take off the dressing!
They will shave it for you if you haven't sorted it out yourself as far as I know so it's worth having it done properly.

They will shave you regardless- its quite exciting really - they come out with an electric number - all very professional of course! I was out my face - had been in labour 16 hours and had to have an EmergencyCS. In hindsight I would have left it anyway - they will probably give you a once over anyhow just for safety sake! Good luck Flowers

My CS was right where my hairline started - I am rather hairy though..Blush

I recently had a c section and they didn't shave me. They advise you not to due to the risk of ingrown hairs and infection.

I had a c section almost 4 weeks ago. I did a bit of a tidy myself but they didn't tidy further before the op!

Meant to add mine is really low so below the hairline and they still didn't shave me.

They don't shave you and they recommend you don't shave or wax before now as it increases infection risk.

I had a section three weeks ago, I trimmed my pubic hair before hand, though that was just because I prefer it short as mine was an emergency section so I wasn't planning on needing it.

The midwife said if you are very hairy they will trim if needed but otherwise they leave it be.

I had an Emcs and they didn't do anything. I would shave before hand but only because that's how I have it anyway iyswim.

My scar is just in the hairline. They didn't shave it, no issues with healing at all.

They dry shaved me with a disposable razor. I'd read they preferred you not to do anything so I hadn't!

I had a section 10 months ago & was told to shave the top inch so that's what I did! Section scar is just below my hairline. I definitely would not wax otherwise you could get quite bad ingrown hairs in the scar line.

They didn't shave me and the scar is a couple of inches above the hair line.

I was told not to do anything before my elcs three and half years ago. Turned up at the hospital at 7am to be presented with a shitty disposable razor because I was meant to have done the top inch or so. Same for the other 3 ladies in on the same day. They should tell you beforehand if you need to shave. Or if not to shave. I would have much rather sorted myself at home in the bath (39 weeks pregnant with very very big twins) than stood in a toilet cubicle in the corner of a ward!

EMCS a week ago, they didn't shave (and neither did I obviously!)

Scar is just above the hairline, and the dressing they used (a 'honeycomb' one) didn't hurt at all to be removed

I've had 1 emcs. They shaved me with an electric shaver both times. Just a narrow strip at the top of my hairline. Scar is just in hairline (second scar is in same place as first).

It must depend on your body shape for the incision.
Mine is a good inch and a half down my hairline.

I was booked for ELCS. Had an EMCS as laboured early.

I pre waxed an inch off.

Then they dry shaved another inch.

Hindsight would tell me to advise not caring either way.

My scar is a few cm above hair line, but is in the same place as my overhang crease (I was previously overweight anyway). Not sure if that was on purpose. I don't remember if I groomed, I may have trimmed but I definitely didn't shave.

Yes it was baby number six, typical after five easy births thar I ended up with emergency section this time!

But we have a gorgeous baby boy, he was 8lb 11oz born at 39wks and is perfect. We have named him Emmett Frank, there is debate over another middle name which we will have to decide for the 4th may when we will be registering him.

He is three weeks and three days old and feeding brilliantly and chubbing up nicely.

My scar is in my hairline and has healed brilliantly. It's a bit wonky but my c section didn't go smoothly, think spinal and epidural that didn't work and a uterus that didn't clamp down so had to be lifted out and massaged whilst I had gas and air and morphine for pain relief and the aenethatist tried to get a line in as my veins had blown... But I was very unlucky, it's a bloody good job he was our last baby though.

I suspect it depends on your hospital/ surgeon.
I had emcs 8yrs ago and wasn't shaved (no problems and healed fantastically) and a planned section this weds (different hospital) and again wasn't shaved.
