Hi mumsnetters, I'd be really grateful for your advice. I can't decide between Wexham Park and Stoke Mandeville labour wards and I was wondering if any of you have recent experience at either? TIA

There was a fairly recent thread about this which might be useful.

here

I posted on it because I had a baby in both hospitals, but my experience isn't recent.

I had DD at Stoke Mandeville and I cannot fault the team there. We were both looked after so well before, during and after her birth.

I had an induction so was started off up on the Rothschild Ward, then went down to labour ward. The midwives who delivered DD never left the room (other than to get me tea and toast once she was born)

It gets a massive highly recommended from me Grin

I had an emergency c section at Stoke. Well, semi-emergency, was booked in for c section as DS breach but waters broke 5 days before.
I had a great experience, couldn't fault the staff, yeah they were busy but where isn't.
Only arse is parking can get v busy but I have never not got a space just need to allow a bit of extra time

DC2 due in July and it wouldn't even cross my mind to go elsewhere

I gave birth at Stoke recently. My personal experience was they are very understaffed and therefore unable to correctly monitor. the consultant was lovely but the midwifes weren't bothered. They didn't listen to me and I personally would not put my future child's life in there hands, I live in Stoke mandaville and will be going To the John Radcliffe for my Next child.

Thank you so much for all the your feedback. Very much appreciated. I had a tour of. SM on Monday and was really impressed with the facilities. DH and I are doing a tour of Wexham Park on Sunday so it will be interesting to compare. I suppose you can always see what the facilities will be like but never what the staff will be like on the day! I've heard such mixed responses from both! Swaying towards SM currently (today!)

I'd be interested to hear if Wexham Park has changed much from when I had DS1, who's now 22. I chose it because we lived literally five minutes drive away at the time.

On the post natal ward there was a lovely little kitchen area for parents to use, and a self-service dining room for the mums where all the meals were delivered. I remember the food being really good, but that might be because I was ravenous after giving birth Grin. I had DS on the Thursday morning & went home on Saturday, but I'd have been happy to stay longer if necessary. The staff were lovely.

I was only in Stoke for less than 24 hours but couldn't get out of there fast enough!

So we went on the hospital tour of Wexham Park today. To say I was disappointed is an understatement! It's no where near as nice as Stoke Mandeville. In fact I'd go so far as to say that SM is in a different league! Decision made. Stoke Mandeville it is!!

That's interesting emma, it appears things have changed at Wexham, and not for the better!

Glad you've made your mind up & hope all goes well.

Thanks DramaAlpaca I appreciate your advice. WP was pretty darn awful actually! Compared to SM it was very depressing but the turning point was the rooms. At SM they're new, calm, beautifully decorated and really spacious. Basically the opposite of WP!

Hi, I’ve recently moved to the area and also need to choose between Wexham Park and Stoke Mandeville. The reviews back in 2016 seemed to recommend SM. Is that still the case or has WP had an investment and new rooms? So new to the area and I have no idea about either or how I’m meant to choose??! Help much appreciated!

@DramaAlpaca I had my first at WP 18 years ago - that bloody self service dining room. I had complications which meant I couldn’t walk for three days - no one fed me! I passed out on the third day trying to stand up and get food after yet another rude midwife said that it wasn’t thier policy to bring any to me, even though I was bed bound and hooked to drips and wires! (There were other problems there too, it ended in a negligence case).

I’ve just had my third, when I went to a dr the first thing they said when they asked where I’d had my others was “Christ, you aren’t going to choose WP again are you?”. That was earlier this year.

I’ve had friends who still live in that area avoid WP like the plague over the years too.

Dear ladies! Does anyone have any recent experiences with Stoke Mandeville maternity or Wexham Park maternity? Any tips? I need to choose between the two.

Hey, I had my daughter at wp in 2018, in the middle of their refurbishment. Had absolutely no problems, and plan on having my next baby there too - currently 27 weeks. What info are you looking for?
