Hi ladies I'm being induced on weds due to PE at 39weeks. I have been told I will be given the prostin (6hour) gel. Just want to see how everyone inductions went and how long it took etc. I know every labour is different just curious Smile

Same here with me. With both of mine I had several pessaries, the sweeps then a drip. The drip got me going but took several days to reach that stage.

It took me 5 days. The pessaries induced cramps but they wore off each time.
Once they start to induce you in hospital you can't go home.
They told me to walk up and down the stairs to try to help - 10 flights umteen times - did bugger all!

I had the pessary on Friday AM, nothing much happened all day/night.. started having contractions the next day, then DS was finally born on Sunday AM. However, my labour pretty much started on its own after the pessary, (though they also did ARM, and eventually drip as contractions slowed) but I was 42+1 when they started the process, so I think it was all ready to go, just needed a wee kick start.
I'm not sure if the gel is quicker/slower or the same than the pessary. Good luck though Bubblegum hope it all goes well!

Dont fret - i had a pessary & in 24hrs my beautiful DD came along. The midwife did say that, that particular batch had been working like rocket fuel. Haha.

I had dd1 8 hours after being induced with the pessary, but my cervix was 'soft' and I would've gone into labour shortly, according to the MW.
With dd2 I had to have pessary and it took 48 hours and the hormone drip to eventually have her. I think a lot depends on how 'ready' your cervix is, if that makes sense Smile

I had the pessary 3 hours later I started getting contractions and a further 4 hours later I was holding my son.

I had a pessary, and started contracting within half an hour. Things slowed down a bit, so was put in a synto drip, and DD was born 3 hours later!
Should add, my waters had already broken the day before at home, and I was 1cm dilated before the induction process began.

Birthdaybetty I didn't see your post looks like it took us both only 8hours lol

I had the gel and gave birth exactly 24 hours later. However, I had also had a sweep, they broke my waters and I was put on an induction drip Confused they weren't going to wait days because DS was very premature and I had placental insufficiency. I was told that it depends very much on the softness of the cervix to begin with, so perhaps ask your midwife about that if you don't mind having a vaginal examination.
Good luck Flowers

I have been induced 3 times!

DS1 - 37 weeks for PE - given first pessary at 8pm on a Friday evening. Midwife very confidently told me that "nothing will happen tonight" as it was my first baby. At about midnight, I started feeling what I was sure were contractions. Midwife, without examining me, decided that it was too soon - I should go back to sleep & she would but a second pessary in at 8am. At 8am (after a sleepless night), midwife came back with the "Induction Trolley" and proceeded to examine me only to find that, yes, I was in labour and was actually ready to go down to the Delivery Suite! From that point it was a fairly slow progression TBH, and DS1 was born at 4.57pm - whilst the Consultant was preparing the forceps!

DS2 - 40+1 as "due to previous history, there's no point letting you go over" - I arrived on the ante-natal ward at 7am, was given a pessary at around 8am. Contractions started properly at around lunchtime and DS2 arrived at 4.31pm.

DD - 38 weeks for erratic BP & increasingly odd LFT results - pessary was given at around 2pm, I was moved on to the delivery suite at around 4pm for "closer monitoring" as DD's heart rate wasn't as steady as they would have liked, even though I wasn't actually in established labour by then. I spent a pleasant couple of hours in a rocking chair, strapped to a baby monitor, watching TV until the pains finally started to be stronger at about 6.30/7pm. I asked the midwife for pethidine, which she left the room to get. When she came back with it at about 7.30pm she asked to examine me to see how things were getting along - at which point she told me it was too late for pethidine as she could see DD's head! DD arrived at 7.47pm!

I have no experience of going in to labour without induction, so I have nothing to compare it to, but for me at least three inductions led to three vaginal deliveries without need for intervention.

Best of luck!

My Consultant (with DD) used to refer to cervixes as "favourable" as opposed to ripe Grin.

Good luck OP!

You'll be absolutely fine, I'm sure. Either later today or early tomorrow you'll be holding your beautiful baby. That feeling really does make everything worthwhile Wink.

Good luck! How's it going?! I'm having my second induction on Friday. First one I had prostin pessary at 41+4. Starting contracting in about 15 minutes! Had a hyper stimulation reaction or some such so had two injections to slow it down! So it can happen fast. This time having the same but they're going to use 1mg instead of 2mgs apparently Grin I am scared but I know (hope!) it will all be fine. Will definitely be having an epidural this time as I really needed it last time. Will only be 39 wks this time so I expect it will take longer. Was a total of 22 hrs last time. Hoping for half that this time! Hoping not to need drip. Eek.

It's not all bad news, promise.

I've had 3 inductions, longest labour was 3 hours from very start to baby in arms Smile

It is different for everyone, you may get lucky, you may not. I'd recommend relaxing, try and forget about how long it's taking, have plenty of distractions to hand and looking forward to the end result.

Good luck, OP SmileFlowers

Oops, sorry, missed your last post. With any luck things will be moving along now (or, even better you'll be having newborn snuggles).
